Feeona - i did my exchange year in upstate New York - last yr - so i travelled during the year and for a month at the end! Never went to disney tho - so ive got that still to come! By the end of the summer im sure you'll have seen loads too!

I'd recommend - Miami, California, NYC and Arizona (esp Grand Canyon) ...

Wow, i totally want to travel when and after I'm there. I've never been to California, that would make a really cool road trip, but I also want to cruise around Florida a lot too- my brother will be living in a yacht off Ft. Lauderdale, so that's one trip I plan on making! And who knows, the keys and possibly the bahamas, since we're so close! (Well, closer than I would be going from Winnipeg)
I mean, this is all wishful thinking, but like someone else said, so was this program!
Finally, on my way home at the end, I DEFINATELY want to see New York!
    so excited!

Yeah Avis let you hire cars under 25 years of age! Other companies could be funny about it. The only thing you can't do if you're under 25 is have multiple drivers - only one person will be insured to drive the car. Make sure you're insured - it's not worth the risk! Check if they'll let you drive out of the State though - some companies don't like their cars wondering off to other States.

Avis is located in the Hilton Hotel foyer in Downtown Disney.

You need a credit card too - debit or US 'check' cards are not accepted - so make sure you have a credit card to take out with you!

Also watch out for some of the Americans - some of the driving is shocking.

You won't need to take another test out there unless you want to buy your own car - which isn't really worth it! But it's up to you - if you decide to buy a car, then to insure it you need a US driving license. But most people just hire a car for a few days of auto-fun! The better the car, the more expensive it is - obviously - but it's well worth it! The Mustang we had for Miami, the Seabring we had for Sarasota and our huge Explorer we had for our last 10 days there were amazing! Go for it!

Hiya, is it possible to sit your test out there if you can't drive here?!!!

Do you think its best to just Hitch a Ride?!!! :D

Marie - Yeah the Grand Canyon was amazing - I think anyone who's ever been probably has a photo like that! I loved it there! Shame our tour wasn't long enough to take it all in! We flew from Las Vegas on 'Air Vegas' right into the Canyon! It was fantastic - then we were back on 'The Strip' that night gambling away! I came away in profit! How many people can say that after leaving the Sin City? Haha! Really, really fun times!

Carol - I think you can go for a test if you don't already have a license! I mean that's what the Americans do isn't it? I never did it, but I knew people who did and it's not really that hard - you drive around a carpark, through some cones, do a couple parks and that's about it - but there is a written test too I think!

Thanks a lot Doc - just if I didnt pass my test here b4 I go I'd like to be able to sit my test over there. I heard that you cant rent a car unless youve been driving for three years. Is that true? If not I definatly will be hitching a ride!!!!

Sara - Sadly I never got to the Keys - we saved that for our last weeks out there - but unfortunately three Hurricanes kinda closed off the area and we ended up stranded in the Days Inn, Orlando - which wasn't as bad as it sounds! As for the cruise we would have loved to have done that too - but again the Hurricanes kinda stopped us doing that aswell - Damn the extreme tropical weather! The moral of the story is... 'Don't leave all your travelling to the last minute, we did a lot - NYC, Colorado Springs, Maryland, Las Vegas etc. but there was a lot left to do at the end, which we sadly couldn't do.

Carol - I never heard that about '3 years' but you might be right - check out http://www.avis.com/AvisWeb/home/AvisHome - there might be information there to help you! By the way - don't go hitching! Haha! Not a good idea - the Yellow Cab service is good most of the time - use them instead!

thats a shame with the hurricanes, i know my cousin was out there at uni, his halls all got flattened, had no clothes & no money, well he is a student, ended up goin to orlando and stayin in a motel.

thanks its a good tip, i try to get planned, so i'll try not leave travellin to the last minute!
