What's better? F&B or Merchandise?

Admittedly I was there quite a few years ago now, but doesn't sound like all that much has changed (apart from having to pass about 20 tests before you get in a tipped position lol!) But I'd back up everyone else

F&B - often faster paced (although there can also be quiet points), but evenings can be very busy and sometimes stressful as a server! The money is a HUGE perk - once I was in service I never worried about money at all. However, certainly when I was there, our days off varied whereas in merch they were fixed, which could be a pain if your friends are off and doing something fun (although you can occasionally request particular days off).

Merch - spend more time on their own in shops, but very close-knit usually. A lot of people say the money isn't everything, and it's not - there's plenty around that you can do for free, or very cheap! It is usually a little more chilled out than f&b and you have more 'consistent' hours (in f&b as a server, you're around as long as your guests are- which could be well over an hour after the park closes!)

Essentially it depends on you, and the way you prefer to work. Having said that, I was on the fence deciding before I went, and was so pleased that I got f&b.

Whatever you get, it's all about what you make of the year - if you're someone who makes the most of it, you'll have the most amazing time!

P.S. Hey Dan - my little sister flies out the same day as you - Em!

Thanks guys :) always helpful to know. So basically, as long as you're prompt, have a good aptitude and show you're willing to learn then you've got a good chance of moving into a tipped position. I don't know how you got merch Charly when you're a restaurant supervisor! Disney really work in weird and wonderful ways, is that what you asked for or did you get considered for both?

F&B does sound great, think I've made the right choice, I like varied fast-paced work to keep me busy and I'm already used to doing ridiculously long shifts so it shouldn't be a problem. Just can't wait for the experience.. Ohh only a months to go!!

And just one more thing that randomly crossed my mind - does the chippy have A/C cause I bet you could easily melt working around fryers in a Florida summer?

I just took loads out before coming as I went to a good doctor. If your insurance covers it then you can use centracare and get the meds cheap or go onto disney incurance which is even cheaper (unless something bad happens as it's a 70/30 payment split.

Ha ha, Tom just makes me laugh. The other week he told me to tape an aspirin to my leg when I got a bite to see if the theory his friend had given him worked!! Katy has helped me out a lot too, esp as I've been a bit (lots) ill out here. I get on well with Cassandra as I'm placid and do as I'm told...that and she's awesome at giving out ERs...especially if you need them (as in, like about an hour ago, when it was raining and I've been ill a lot this week and I got my bump out...)
When I first started we were over staffed and every day I got 3.00-9.30, except EMH when I was 6-12.30 (earlys would be 10.15/30/45 until 4.15/30/45; mids 12-6ish). Now we've been getting more hours, so I've had 12-9.30 quite a lot or open-close, some 6 day weeks (mostly because of tea tours I think); normally people seem to be getting 10.45-7.15 or 1-9.30.

So it really varies, esp at the moment as they postponed the shift bid, and I'm middley in seniority so I get everything!!!

It does indeed. The fryers are toward the back of the chippy and the aircon's at the front though, so we're fine, but the culinaries melt lol. That's if you're inside though. If you're on tills it's aweful! Obviously you can't really move because you can't leave your till and yes you're under a big umbrella, but the only air you get is from a tiny wee fan by the side (they may have got a bigger one now though lol). I was on podium till June and you could feel the sweat dripping down your legs! Everyone thought I was super bouncy because I was always twirling around, but actually it was just to get some air to my poor leggies lol. So glad I went into food running at the start of July haha. Beer cart's pretty bad too. You're usually on your own, so you can't move because you can't leave your till, the little fan at the back is crap and come the afternoon the sun moves round so you're blinded haha.
