If you save up money (and make friends you can stay with), you can stay out on a tourist visa for 3 months. You might find you don't like it as much as you think you will. I loved my time at Disney, but I won't lie, apart from Disney/Universal/Sea World, there really isn't a lot on Orlando, which would be very expensive if you didn't work at any of them. I went over with a totally romantasiced (sp? lol) view of America, and came back knowing I couldn't live there forever. The food put me off haha. Being there makes England seem like the best place in the entire world...then you come home and America seems quite appealing again lol. Getting married seems to be the best option. Or go as a tourist and don't leave (I may have known people who did that too ). Oh...and I definitely recommend San Fran over Orlando
grooveyem - Good idea! I think I'm going to travel round America next summer with a friend so I'll get a feel for the place that way! That way I can see as much as possible ;D
Have you checked on various travel and tourism websites? Thomas cook for example have holiday reps pretty much everywhere. You can often say your preferred area. Its not garunteed you'll be in America, but you'll have a fun time either way
Very true. I met and married an American guy while on my CRP (the Canadian dream, eh?) and after my contract with Disney ended, I found out that Orlando is a fantastic place to visit, not so much to live. Florida, in general, unfortunately. 3 worst state in the country for unemployment. I live in Texas now, and would go back to Orlando just to work at Disney again in a heartbeat, but the company my husband worked for is now out of business and he has a good thing going here now. I don't mean to break your heart on Orlando.... like I said, I do love it and miss it terribly, but there are plenty other places with better living conditions. And for the record, marrying an American is a very long, expensive, and extremely stressful (gov forms. tons of them.) process.... but it's so worth it IF you find the right one. Met mine in a drunken stupor in a bar. You never know. EDIT: after that long rant I forgot to mention the thing I really wanted to say lol I remember hearing a while ago that American companies have to justify giving out Visas and/or Green Cards as opposed to finding and American to do the job. I now understand it after going through the Green Card process - they have to do several gov forms and whatnot in order to get you over here. There are certain jobs that it is easier - health care is a huge one.
