You can go with whomever you please, or no one at all : these two are most convenient in terms of branch and ATM locations

This is a difficult choice though. I thought I had made up my mind and go with Vista, but I have my doubts. I do think the Bank of America might be interesting too, besides the fact that they are a nationwide bank and have branches all over the country, they also have branches abroad...even one in Amsterdam, NL. So if I'd need to change anything it would be only a train journey away. For that same reason other banks like Citibank, BankOne/Chase, and others have passed through my mind.

I would very much apreciate if someone could draw up a table with all the pro's and con's of the three banks: Vista, SunTrust, and Bank of America. Including the costs and service they provide, btw. someone mentioned that BoA had a good deal for CM's, but it is not on their website, so I am curious about that!

I would be gratefull if someone could help me make up my mind...I tend to doubt a lot, so I gotta prepare now otherwise I'll be done choosing my bank one week before I have to return home ::) ;) ;D

Here's what I am currently contemplating.......

Firstly, re-opening an account with Vista. Reasons being that it is by far the most convenient bank for IPs/CPs etc. without cars to get to the bank and to withdraw money. Of course, they have funky cards too. ;D

Secondly, perhaps opening a second account with (e.g.) BoA. Use it minimally but then keep it open when I leave.

That way you'd have options. If you don't like using vista, change your direct deposit to your other account and see how that goes.

Basically Vista is the most covenient, in terms of setting up, withdrawing cash, visiting the branch (although those video tellers are rather freaky!) but it is perhaps not the bank which offers the best services for the best price. :-\

    Bank accounts

    Hi people!!!

I´ve been reading the posts of this forum, and I want to ask if someone knows, or if someone has an account in American Express Bank. In some countries American Express issues also check accounts, but I don´t know if in USA they do, I think they shall. I have my Plat from American Exp, but I wish I could have mi checkin´ account also.

Some friends told me about Washington Mutual, they offer a Gold Check Card account with no fees, Somebody knows more about this bank??? Thanks guys, and see u in Orlando.

    Cheers,

I wanted to know more...so I made a comparison. I've tried to be as accurate as possible with the time I had...anyway...

    Download the chart here

It is a PDF file. I don't think I'll be going with the Bank of America, but I did discover that I do like SunTrust and Wachovia.

Hope this helpes in sorting out everything you need to know...

    ...oh yeah...of course Vista is a must!!! I think I'll be opening two accounts ::) ;) ;D

I, personnaly, am at Wachovia and just opened an account at Suntrust a couple weeks ago. I had Wachovia for about 3 and a half months now, and am a bit disappointed, plus its not close to my house whereas suntrust is. Anyways, my mom used to have suntrust (formerly sun bank) and she never had any problems. So I am about to put an end to Wachovia and stay with Suntrust. But I have to agree Bank of America is not the best. Sometimes local banks are even better.

Id have to say take vista, you have so much easier access to the both banks. Plus each complex has its own ATM which is vista. And the american coach buses go right to vista credit union. Which is by Chatham and Commons. You can also get direct deposit as well with Vista which gets set up automatically after a few pays or you can do it yourself earlier.

Sun Trust because Vista cast members are really rude- at our bank presentation, it wasn't even a presentation, they basically said "Sit down, open the envelope, write your name and sign your life away". They didn't even tell you about the account and they wouldn't answer our questions. And at the presentation you can only open a savings, not a checking, so you have to go to the Vista Bank on International Drive to open up a checking anyway!!

Sun Trust is good, no fees to sign up, no maintenance fees, a debit/check card, free cheques, there is Sun Trust ATM's in Disney, at Epcot Cast Services in particular and in Downtown Disney as well I believe, the bank is right at the Super Wal Mart where the shuttle buses take you for groceries and the employees are really nice. All you need is a foreign ID, your DISNEY ID that you get at Traditions, your hometown's address, your Orlando address at the Commons, Vista Way or Chatham and phone number and only $25US to open up the account and your mother's maiden name!

I hope this helps- GO with SUNTRUST!!

Sorry for the experience. To bad...
...I do still think I want to open an account there though. For the nearby convenience AND a Disney banking card. ;D

I am still thinknig about choosing Wachovia above SunTrust. I think their banking network is bigger than that of SunTrust and they seem to me like a solid partner. Actually you hear both positive and negative sounds around both banks. But that Wachovia is a bigger bank is interesting to me because if the future would allow me to go back to the states, chances are that I will run into a Wachovia bank more easily than a SunTrust bank.

The only nice thing about SunTrust in Orlando is that they have a branch in Downtown Disney, other than that it doesn't really matter if you'd choose SunTrust or Wachovia.

Haven't made up my mind yet for 100% about SunTrust vs. Wachovia.

    Hey!

ok let me get my two cents in here, I went with vista..and it stinks!
They had extra charges all over the place that you really don't know about, it's extra to have online banking and it has hidden fees all over the place, but my friends unless you have a wonderfull thing called a car! it's location location location, you can walk into any PARK! back stage and there is a vista bank machine, or anthing cast related, And there is a bank machine at the commons..and all the villas! So really, Yes it sucks, the banking sucks, but it's the locations, cause unlike us canadians, they dont have the simple little thing called debit in Florida! they have a visa card that Just adds up and trust me, being a castmember one thign you don't want to do is get in debt.

Strange, strange, strange...Vista FCU was so popular and everybody was cheering for them...but now I get to see complaints, interesting.

If you look at their comparison chart it seems like everything is free for the Basic Checking Account. Also I don't find any hidden charges in the charges overiew, hearing your comments I guess they are there so we'll have to tiptoe around them anyway.

Questions and mixed feelings about bank accounts here.

    Help!?

I have decided to go for Wachovia for sure now. It is one of the bigger banks of the country and their checking account is free. I may visit New York after the J1 program, and they have many branches in NYC as well. Besides this I am thinking long term...I hope to go back to the States next year to do a half year of college (also an exchange) and I hope I can study in Baltimore, where Wachovia is also present.

I am not sure yet about Vista. I did hear some negatives about them...we'll see. I guess I'll just do that as well for my convenience. But I must admit banking in the US is different from banking in The Netherlands.

Just to clarify: Vista do offer free online banking, and they do offer a debit card. The debit card is Visa badged, but it is a debit, not credit, card.

ok im lost - you actually pay to have a bank account? banks make money by loaning out your money to people and then charging high rates to pay it back normally - sheesh but in florida u have to pay? i wanna keep my own account but i cant because they will charge me 2.5% every time i withdraw money in us meh
