This might be totally off track but can you use your Debit card for Direct Payment in the States? I haven't been to the States in awhile and the last time I was there, there was no system for direct payment ... like Interac in Canada.

lol I've had no problem using my debit card from Canada in the states, but my moms won't work. So essentially yes they do and you could possibly use your Canadian one but I don't think it'd be possible to deposit money into your CDN account anyway...

But in short yes the US has a debit card system.

    Hey everyone!

Don"t go with Vista, they charge you a fee of $3 a month for the savings account. You then have to go in to vista and open a chequing account. With vista you will get one card for withdrawing money from atms and one for making purchases in stores. With Suntrust (who im with) you dont pay anything, and i get free chequing no min balance, direct deposit. And i only need one card for everything. Suntrust has alot of locations in and around orlando and throughout the USA. Vista is only located on disney property. you will find atms for them at cast services and the commons. With suntrust they have them at cast services, and pretty much anywhere in orlando, jacksonville, miami, and in a few other states.

Now in regards to your canadian debit card it wil most likely not work in the states. The reason behind this is that as stores up-grade their machines they no longer have a touch pad for puting in you acsses code. So for this reason you need a debit card that is associated with a visa or mastercard to be used. I cannot use my TD Bank Debit Card here.

I hope this helps and made sence.....my advice to you is go into the vista presintation take their info then leave look it over and compare to other banks and see what suits what your needs are......I chose suntrust because its a national bank with lots of locations, and i plan to keep my account open with them because i travel to the USA alot because of family so it made sence for me to keep an american account.

So can we not draw money out with Sun Trust at the commons? Is Cast Services the only place in Disney that we can?

I don't know if this helps, or if it just creates even more confusion, but this is in the "common questions" link of the wdwip website...

Can I open a bank account while I am there?

Yes. How to do so will be explained during the first few days in The Commons. The two options are SunTrust and Vista Federal Credit Union. SunTrust is a large national bank that happens to be the official bank of WDW (they issue the paychecks), but like many large banks is often guilty of high fees and impersonal service. The more popular (and better, IMHO) choice is Vista FCU, which, as the name implies, is not a bank but a Federal Credit Union. These are called by different names depending on the country, but can also be referred to as Caisses Populaires or Building Societies. The difference is rather transparent though, as Vista FCU offers all the same services and security of SunTrust, but for no charge and with better service (from fellow Cast Members, no less). Vista FCU is 'part' of Disney as it is owned by Cast Members. As a result, your checks, and debit or credit cards will be emblazoned with the familiar Disney moniker! The closest SunTrust branch is located right across from Pleasure Island, with ATMs in all the parks (onstage and offstage). SunTrust also has hundreds of locations in Florida and other states. Vista FCU has branches located in Team Disney across from Downtown Disney West Side and in Disney University, with ATMs in many backstage areas. The only non-WDW locations of Vista FCU are near the Disney Studios in California.

Yeah I think I'll go with Vista as well... I don't have a lot of need for a national US account, and I don't forsee myself leaving WDW property a whole lot (the odd day trip/excursion, Universal, and shopping) and for that for the most part I could use a debit card... and if not I'll always have my credit card.

yup exactily. In fact I plan on saving up enough money (40 US should be good) to take down with me to just sit in the savings account to pay the $3 a month fee...

I'm with vista, had no probs, plus they have a bank near downtown disney and in walmart.

over drawn fees with them can be a prob but they should always be about $35 charge if u do, just dont keep checkin ur balance cos they charge u if u check too often.
