    Hi Chloe! (and everyone else!!)

My application is finally re-submitted and all correct, aside from the currently employed thing, but Elena said she can see it all correctly back of house, so even if people are still seeing incorrect stuff on their submitted application, they may be seeing it correctly at YJ!

Now to sit back and stick it at the back of my mind! Hmmm...wonder how easy that will be....... :p

    Hi Guys!
I'm new here, I only set up my profile today so I'm probably asking questions that have already been answered!
I've also applied for the Cultural Exchange Programme next Summer and I am so excited to see how this all plays out! I had major problems with my application at the start, all of my dates were deleted and none of my employment came up. Yummy jobs were quick to fix it though! :)

Just wondering, does anybody know when the Pre screen style interviews are? Would we get a lot of notice once applications close? Also, if we get as far as to get the 2nd interview with Disney, do we get to choose where we would prefer to work? (merchandise, quick service food and beverage etc?)

    Hey!

From what I remember last year there were pre screen interviews in Edinburgh, London, Manchester and possibly Birmingham (maybe one or two more)
Yeah you do get a fair bit of notice especially if they bring forward the closing date for applications like they usually do! So you will get enough time to get time off work or make up an excuse for possibly missing a uni day ;)

They'll ask you in pre screens what your top 3 role choices are and I believe they ask you again in the final interviews :)

Feel free to ask us any questions :D! Tis what it's for :p

    Welcome new guys :)

Yeah, basically like callooom4 said, you find out about the pre-screens 1.5 to 2 weeks prior (depends when your pre-screen is, last year I think they went on for like a week) so quite in advance but still if you have to fly or anything (like I did for universal), the fares are a little steep.

With the roles, you do get to say like what your top fave are but ultimately, you do not choose; Disney does. Consequently, you may not get one of your choices or it may be your last one you get. I think last year as well they also hired some people out to Hilton Head Resort in North Carolina (?).

Now, I want this more than anything but I still have not finished my application-feel so bad!

Thanks so much for the advice!

I'll be flying out from Dublin but I have family in Edinburagh and London so at least I won't have to pay for hotel fees on top of flights! I'll have to miss a few days at College but hey, completely worth it if it means Florida in 2014!

What are peoples preferences for their role? I'd love merchandise because I'd actually be excited selling a pair of Mickey Ears to a guest who's first time it is in the park haha. Does anyone know on average, maybe, how many people are called to the Stage one phase by Yummy Jobs? :)

Thank goodness I'm only a train journey away from Edinburgh - although not looking forward to having to fork out for a flight to London if I get that far!

As far as I remember we think there was quite a few hundred for prescreen, they seemed to half the numbers each stage

Ha ha yeah I do love the sound of merchandise too but with the Academic Exchange Program (there is no thread on it here, so I have just hijacked this one :D) I am gunning for Front House/Concierge which is only for the Academic Exchange. Attractions would be rocking too though, I would love LOVE to work on Soarin' or Splash Mountain!

Regarding numbers, I think last year like 1,500 sent in applications and then 500/600ish got pre-screens. Those are rough numbers though but basically like megannn said, it kinda goes in halves although I think Stage 1 is the biggest cutting stage.

I really want to work on attractions in magic kingdom but I have a sneaking suspicion if I et through ill end up on quick food and bev or full service host cause of my experience...wish I had worked at a theme park before or something just ski had experience to get on attractions! But it'll be awesome no matter what!

Yeah basically as Megannn and AllyBallyBee said - halved each time.
Merchandise and Operations are probably my top 2 :p (Since I worked in The Disney Store)

I wrote on my cover letter that I'd prefer to work in merchandise or quick service, but now after thinking about it, I'd love attractions. I didn't write it down because I thought it'd be too big a challenge as it's something so new that I haven't done before, but now I'm thinking, this is a huge opportunity if I got in so why should I be close minded about it... anywhere would be good :D

I can't wait for applications to close to see if I get asked to pre screens. Does anybody elses application on the Yummy Jobs site say, 'your application is under review' ? :)

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to say good luck to you all with your applications. I have just finished my ICP, I was in Merchandise in Fantasyland and it was the best summer of my life. I am super jealous of you all being able to apply for this year and if you guys have any questions about the ICP or the application process let me know and I will try to help out!

Hiiiii! Was fantasyland the best place to work do you think? Also when was the latest time you could start working there cause I am planning to so Glastonbury then go to Florida( if I get it!!!)

Fantasyland was amazing! I'm not sure if it was the best place to work, it depends on what you want. I loved it but know that a lot of people wouldn't have been as happy. Working in Magic Kingdom did mean I got a lot of late shifts (particularly around 4th July!) but I personally found that better because it meant I could go play in the parks during the day and then work at night, I got very little sleep over the summer! But as far as the role itself, it was pretty awesome being able to work right underneath the castle! Had lots of fun and would definitely recommend it!

For the start dates of the program the two options this year were June 3rd and June 10th. I know in some years they have had more options, but they are mostly earlier in May or June so I would plan to be available from the start of June onwards. Hopefully you could fit both in and good luck!

    Hey everyone!
so I applied last year, and got through every stage but then on the day when everybody got their 'yes' or 'no' .. I was one of about 20 people in the UK that got placed on the 'opportunity list' meaning that if somebody turned it down or more places became available. unfortunately, only about 3 people got taken off this list (and these were the people that worked for a UK Disney store - YJ was waiting for references from their stores) ..nobody else then got a place. Im going into my last year of uni, so this is my last chance, fingers crossed!
I started a tumblr last year but obviously didn't carry it on, or even put anything about the opportunity list, because I was so upset :(
sooo .. heres hoping for this year!
btw, Ive seen that people put the roles they wanted to do on the cover letter, I didn't do this, dya reckon that's an issue?
    xx

Hi! Good luck on your application this year. I don't think putting roles on your cover letter will have been an issue, if anything I would say from personal experience that it would hinder your application more if you did put them on. Yummy Jobs and Disney want you to be as flexible as possible, they only have a limited number of places in each role and so if you have limited the roles you want to only a couple before you have even had an interview then you are automatically lowering your chances of getting in.

I'm not saying its a good idea to put down every single role because you don't want to be unhappy when you get there, but I would just consider what you would be happy doing in order to work at WDW. I had a difficult decision last year because I knew that most of the roles would be in quick service but I didn't really want to work with food. In the end I put it down as my last choice but said I would be happy to work it if that was the only role available to me. I think this really helped my application because it showed that I was willing to try something new and be flexible. In the end I got my first choice of merchandise and was so thrilled! So what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't worry about not selecting a specific role so early in the process.

What I would say though is that if you have any roles which you are specifically interested in, make sure that any experience you have shows that you would be good in that role. So on my CV I had a weeks work experience working on the reception desk of a large company, I made sure to emphasise that I had spent my time greeting clients who were here for meeting, making sure they were comfortable and making phone calls to the employees they were due to see. I left out the fact that I spent a lot of time filing and organising paperwork because I didn't think that would benefit me as much as the client interaction.

I hope this helps a little bit and makes sense! If you have any other questions please ask!

Hi faithtrustpixiedust, that is gutting you got on the opportunity list but at least you know there is something about you they really like so hopefully this year is the year!
I guess the waiting has caused everyone to disappear but just to let you guys know that I finally got the application for the Academic Exchange in whoo! Only took an age as I was being particularly pernickety and decided to put mine through my uni's career service first :D
The good thing about waiting was the only issues I had with mine were the fact that apparently I attended both my uni and secondary in January 1970. Hmmmm, not quite true...
So only a month and a half for me to have to wait now, wish I was like you guys and only had 3 weeks.
Anyways, good luck everybody; may you survive the waiting and receive magical news :)
