Both time I've applied and got through with a normal cv,very plain and simple, they don't like too long or fancy, they just like facts I think. Just make it easy to read
i personally think that they just need to be memorable, whether that means using colour & pictures or making it fun and interesting to read or whatever, it needs to stand out in some way so that when they review them they remember yours and perhaps take a little longer to look over your application, therefore giving you a greater chance of getting through to the next stage. they must get so many "standard" type CVs/cover letters in and it must get pretty tedious for them to read a variation on the same thing day in day out! I know it would do my head in if i had to read them all!!!!!!!
yea my cv and cover letter were very plain...the cover letter was just my heart spilled out all over the page lol...but i got all the way through first time so maybe all the fancy stuff really isn't needed?? xxx
at the end of the day i really dont see theres much rhyme or reason to the application process, as we can see from this forum people have applied and got in by having basic, plain CVs, some have got through having OTT crazy CVs, some have had loads of experience while some have had none at all, some have got in 1st time and yet others have had to apply 4 or 5 time etc etc etc --- basically we are all different, i think that the best thing to do is just do your CV and cover letter the way YOU want, do your best, make it as good as you want it to be and thats it!!!!!!!
I think at the end of the day its down to the person reading it, i mean the person may be sick of a certain type of c.v/letter and subconsciously don't really give the next one they see that is like that a prop chance. Or they may be sick of all singing all dancing type letters. Or anything could happen in the office and they could look away from the screen and when they look back their thoughts on what they were reading have been broken and they disregard it. Conversely a letter may have a picture of a Disney character that the reader likes and as such happens to spend more time looking at the letter because of it. Basically what I'm saying is an element of it is luck as it relies upon a human to look at it and make a decision rather than something like a machine which 'scores applications' according to certain features. Just a thought, and i guess making it stand out would be beneficial if you think that type of letter/c.v. suits your personality and it is what you are comfortable with.
yeah i would also agree with that. also, we have to remember that our applications are being judged against eachother, and therefore the person reading them will perhaps remember perhaps the 10 previous applications they have looked at before yours, its really down to luck in the end!!!! ;D
I did the program 2007-2008 too, and just re-applied! Went to the interview last saturday, now anxiously waiting my answer.. I unfortunately have a "restricted rehire status" because I self-termed 4 weeks before I was finished last time, but hoping they'll look past it. I really, REALLY want this!
with a little help from pinkspideruk i spent the evening redoing my cv, writing a covering letter complete with pictures of me on my previous programme to prove that i was once, in some way, employable to disney. Hopefully it will do some good. ive also emailed yummyjobs asking them to delete all muy previous applications of my account so i can apply for this alone and not get confused, or risk them getting confused by the amount of applications for varying programmes i seem to have on my yummyjobs account. i also had a slight chuckle at pinkspiders stand out entry into her employment history section of her CV-Bra saleswoman! Oh if only my jobs history were that interesting
that sounds awesome, now I wanna read pinkspider's cv! (out of nosiness of course :) I'd send you mine as well but seems you don't need it anymore
