I thought this topic was called "Talking Laptops" and my first thought was "I WANT ONE!"

My Dad thinks I should get one of those tiny laptops to take out, but I love my laptop now it finally works!!

That's not bad. I would say it's about average for what you'd pay for those specs on a laptop. And really, if you're not doing tons of photo/video editing or gaming, that will run just fine. It'll probably last you 4 or5 years, but I find that is the average time I want a new lap top anyway!

I'm not a huge fan of Macs, though I do love their commercials! :D

When I get a new laptop, I'd like to get one with a Blu Ray player, so possibly a Sony Vaio, but there are some HP's which I was looking at that would work as well.

I was planing on buying a Mac.. but... since they are so expensive I though I'll just wait until I return back home to my new appartment after the program :D

I do a lot of video/photo editing.. A LOT!!! so I need a mac soon, but my homepc is workings just fine too for the moment.

But on my new computer (which I'm getting on friday) I've updated the RAM and Processor + HDD sooo It will be "okey" for video/photo editing :)

I bought an Acer Aspire One Notebook to bring with me. It's tiny and pink and fits in my locker without me having to turn in on its side! I'm rarely on it so its quite nice to have something little. And it wasn't expensive either. My other laptop at home is massive and cost a lot so I didn't want to bring it. My Mum is using it at the moment and my brother is resetting the whole thing.

The only problem is that it doesn't have a CD ROM drive, so I can't copy things to disk. However, I bought one for about £40 and once I've installed it I shall let you know how it does!

ooo can you please please let me know how you get on? im completely torn between shelling out hundreds for a macbook or just paying a little bit for an Acer Aspire One and buying a CD?DVD drive. Also is yours compatible with itunes? apparently one of the operating systems isn't so im a tad confused what to go 4 :) x

All macs and windows XP/ Vista computers are compatible with i-tunes but you need to of course use an ipod. If you use i-tunes to buy music then you now don't have to use i-tunes to also play them as Apple have just removed the DRM which allows the music to work on other software like windows media player.

It swings and round about really. You buy a cheap laptop for £400 and it may last you 3-4 years but you spend £800-£1k for a macbook yet they last 6-10 years without getting sluggish.

You need to make sure you buy one with windows on it, not the other program that most of the Acer's come with. I had to pay extra for windows, but got it directly from Acer which is good because I got international cover with it!

thanks ;D I had been looking at the other 1 (Linxus or something like that) coz it was cheaper but there really is no point in me getting it if its not itunes compatible :) ill have a look at the Acer website for a nosy at the prices (international cover would obviously be amazing, especially for a clutz like me) xxx

They're selling computers with an O/S that is neither windows or Mac O/S? Are they loading it with Linux or something? lol

I've never heard of any computer being sold with Linux installed. I thought all came with Windows except us elite Mac owners sho have OSX :p

Contrary to popular belief, this is not true. The performance of electronics don't fade over time. The performance of an O/S does, however, if not maintained properly. A windows clean up once every year or so will do the trick. And don't click those online poker links. :]

The thing that won't last you on any one laptop is the hardware inside it. Macbook or not, after 3 or so years it will be way outdated hardware wise. Of course you can have a PC that is running just fine despite its age, but when it comes to applications that require a lot of power, it will prove useless. Even the best Macbook on the market can't come on subpar with the performance of my current laptop, and it costs nowhere the same. The performance will still be just the same when I replace it in... say 4 years. I don't have anything against Macs, by the way, I just had to let you know performance won't decrease over time. :)

Just my two cents. (For the record, I'm not a geek, I am merely techologically inclined :p)
