£800?? Damn, you could get a phat laptop for that money with HDMI output, blu-ray player & all that goodness. What's so good about the macs? I've never owned one but alot of my friends swear by them.

Basiclly apple make the hardware AND software unlike Microsoft who just make Windows. It allows the software to run perfectly on the hardware better than any PC. You pay more but they last for ever. If you buy a decent mac to start with it can last for a very long time. My friend bought his mac computer in 1999 and runs perfectly with the latest operating system that came out a few months ago.

They cant get any sort of Adware, Trojon's or Virus' and are better with video/photo editing.

And if all else fails you can install Windows XP/Vista and a mac will still run it better than any PC can. Mac's aren't great for games but that's it

That makes sense I suppose. It would be like a car with Ford brakes, BMW engine, Vauxhall suspension & a body by Volkswagen! Wish I knew that when the slick saleman dude in PC World convinced me to get the laptop I have now!

One thing for those of you outside of North America to consider is that the plugs in the USA are different from yours. So if you were going to bring your computer from home, I would look into finding a US-compatible charging cable for it. You can also get one of those adapters... but I never liked using those. Maybe for something you don't have to charge so often like an electric razor or mobile, but not a computer.
American pricing on electonics is pretty cheap, at least compared to Canadian. Check out bestbuy.com or circuitcity.com, they are the biggest electronics chains and usually have really good deals (especially Best Buy).

I just had a normal adapter and it worked fine! I'm not sure how easy it is to find US power leads, simply because of the voltage difference. Hmmm more research is needed methinks...

  9. A normal adaptor works just fine out there. For those of you who have not yet got a laptop, I would suggest holding off until you get there and buying it there, they are really well priced compared to the uk. I bought a laptop to go with and then when I got there I seen the same one in Walmart for less than half the price. So I waited a few months and bought another one out there with money my parents gave me for xmas. Still working great back home too,

I dont think my laptop could take the strain of any more travelling lol.
.......the handle to winde it up is becoming shabby lol.

If I were to buy a new lappy when I am out in the US, would I be able to use it when I got back to the UK? I wouldnt wanna waste the money knowing that it will only be any good for 12 months.

there was something else I was going to ask but I have forgot.....erm....it will come back lol.

You'd be OK buying a macbook from apple in the US as their warranty covers you world wide. Buy a windows PC then it's down to the individual companies who make the laptop. Dell may cover you but i doubt anyone else would.

Mac's ARE expensive but you do get what you pay for. $1300 is the cost for the basic macbook which is not much cheaper than the UK after tax

I'm buying my extended warranty in the US, despite getting the macbook here simply because they want £200 here for it and in the US you can get it for £80

Its rediculous what they charge us sometimes compared to america, its quite unfair, even with the itunes download store.

Ive been thinking about laptops for a while but think im just gonna save super hard and get a macbook out there. a friend of mine did that last summer after a brief stint in a camp and says it works perfectly over here. i had thought about just getting a cheap and cheerful ACER aspire one, but it has no CD/DVD drive and one of the operating systems doesnt work with itunes so that immediatly ruled that out :) cant wait to get my macbook
