Yeah, you're in good hands with Disney. They will train you well :)

Don't worry about serving trust me its way easier then you think, if its anything like the places i've worked its almost all done for you as long as you cn be polite, write down an order and use a computer you;ll be fine. the hardest part is timing but since you won't be dealing with any tableside service that should be easy enough too. Really the hardest part is dealing wth all types of people, one table will be sweet and nice and awesome and then you'll have to go to a not so great table. But yeah, I'm sure Disney will give you a better training period then almost any other restaurant so your in good hands

It is so weird to think about that I rellay didn't want to be a server. I even tried to switch over to attractions because they were so understaffed, but my managers wouldn't let go of me ;)

And one good advice about those annoying guests; kill them with kindness! It actually helps! I had several guests apologizing to me because they realized that I wasn't the problem and they saw that I did whatever I could for them :) It also makes both your and your guests day so much better!

Thanks everyone! Now I'm *super* excited to take on the challenge! Tink, your "kill 'em with kidness" idea really makes me happy... I like the idea of making a guests day better! Ahh... I can't wait to go to Disney!

I've been given F&B too, with no experience! I'm really nervous, but I do trust Disney with their training. I just get worried about spilling things on people! :-\

Hehe, it's nothing to worry about! Most people spill on a guest at least once ;) Disney has good ways of fixing it!

Like free food and fast passes! lol

Only complaint I ever had at mylast restaurant job was because we ran out of rice and had to give them chips instead. Made me want to cry, they shouted at me so much! Like it was my fault! They got their whole meal for free and extra drinks. I hate people who makea fuss for free stuff. It's not fair on everyone else!

yeah you get alot of jerks like that in the restaurant business but hopefully ppl will be in a better mood in WDW ;D

And for saving money...don't buy brand names, look for sales, try not to be too tempted by Disney merchandise :D pick up any extra hours you can, but don't let money issues overwhelm you cuz you're there for the experience mainly ;D
How does overtime work there? Here you get paid time and 1/2 if every hour you work over 8hrs in a day and if you work more than 40hrs in a week.

I'm pretty sure I read in the Disney pack that overtime works the same there as well, time and a half for every hour you do over 8 hours, which sounds great! I kinda wish I wasn't limited to F&B in the UK though, I'd love to do overtime somewhere else, but not sure if I can??

No you cant'! Your visa only allows you to work in the english pavilion! You can do volunteer work though :p

yeah no OT in other countries lol
even within your own pavillion you can't pick up shifts in merch or attractions if you're in f&b (that's right, right??)

hm, dunno about that.. when I worked there, there were people working shifts in other parts of the pavilion than their designated one...
the only way one can work outside the pavilion though, is when there are activities arranged in the park which require IP's to participate, like tree-lighting, parades etc.

Not really, if they're really understaffed it might happen though, but you only get to do the boring work that you don't need training for... Like I spent a whole day in the door greeting in the Norwegian attraction when I was working f&b.

I would love to work both f&b and attractions but I'm not allowed, can only do one of them... I think it's because it'll cost Disney too much to train you in more than one position.

Yeah, not just money though, alot of it is time too.

What if it's your 2nd time doing the program and you've already been trained in another area? :D

Then you can probably pick up some ot work. Possibly. Maybe.

I'm not sure, I think it all depends on the managers there and if there's been much changes...

well... a girl i knew on the cp programe who did custodial had to redo the training when she went back two years later, so i think you might not be allowed in the eyes of disney but if you explain im sure you might be able to

that's because things changes... I'm hopefully going back to f&b, where we usually go almost straight to server when we've been there before. But now they've changed the menu, so we have to work QS for a while before we get to serve...

ususally your training expires 6 months after the last time you worked in that area. i did merchandise and i returned 9 months later on another program and wasn't allowed to pick up merchandise shifts
