I know my plan is to have my parents call me. I'll have a calling card so I can make quick calls to them... only to tell them to call me back. They can get much better rates on long distance from their home provider than I could from a cell phone or calling card.

Also, my mom has a 1-866 number that I can call. It's toll free for me, and just goes onto her account. I don't know how she got it (it's for home, not business), but I believe it was free, or at least *really* cheap from her local phone company. That's something else for parents to look into!

I don't call my son's cell phone or text him unless it is for something quick, it is quite expensive for him. He is working in merchandise and has very little extra money. He also has a Virgin phone from the Virgin Megastore at Downtown Disney. We chat a lot on MSN. When I see him on MSN, I know he's home and I can call him at his apartment - it costs him nothing for that call. He can not call me from that phone though as CM's are not allowed to make long distance calls from the phones in the apartments.

Yes I would tend to agree with the calling card. Get your relatives to call your appartment if you can because it won't cost you anything.

If they call you, you pay 10c a minute to recieve. If you call them it is 20c a minute to the UK on virgin. International texts are 20c to send and 10c to recieve. I don't think they are included in any text bundles you buy. Texting/recieiving messages in the US all go towards any bundles you have bought which is good.

If you really need to speak to them on your cell get them to call you.
