    Canada's Birthday.
    141 years old :)
Not the start of canada but marking the establishment of Canada as new federation with its own constitution on July 1 , 1867!

But here it is also memorial day we celebrate both in Newfoundland.

on July 1. Memorial Day commemorates the losses of Dominion of Newfoundland on the First day on the Somme in the Battle of Beaumont Hamel during the Battle of the Somme in World War I.

On July 1, 1916, 801 members of the 1st Newfoundland Regiment fought in that battle and only 68 answered the roll call the next morning.

A memorial park was established in Beaumont-Hamel in 1925 as a tribute to the fallen soldiers.

Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will often observe Memorial Day during the morning at the National War Memorial in St. John's and cenotaphs around the province, flying the British flag at half staff. In the afternoon and evening, Newfoundlanders celebrate Canada Day
