When you first start you'll be trained in seater, greeter and chippy.
Greeter you stand at the computer on the front podium and check people in, so take their details and give them a pager.
Seater you page the parties and show them to their table.
Chippy you'll either be on the tills or filling orders.

Then you might get trained on beer cart, some people get trained, some people don't. There they just sell a couple of different beers and bottles.

Some of the boys will get trained as a stoker too, so they cart stuff across from the stock rooms across the road and change kegs and the like. (Dw, they never get girls to do it :p)

Then if you pass your preservice test and your speils, you'll go into food running, where you take the food out to the tables. You'll do that for a couple of weeks before you start your service training and take your servce test.

If you pass that you'll be a fully fledged server. Servers look after the tables; so speil the menu, take their orders, get their drinks, take appetizers and desserts and sort checks etc.

A few servers then go onto the bar. To do that you have to pass a pretty in depth written test and do a practical test. Competition for the bars big though as they only have about 8 bartenders in total (compared to 20+ servers). Plus it's run by one woman and if she doesn't like you, you'll never get on there haha.

    20+ servers. Wow.

How many covers can the R&C take?!

ie, full restaurant, how many people can be sat at one time.

its about 250 guests at any single time, on an average night the R&C does about 600 covers....more on busy nights (900-odd on new years eve between 12 - 4....)

Hi, sorry for the intrusion! But I have a question for you guys.
Do Disney call up your previous employers? I have nothing to hide honest ;D just at my old job there was drama and one of the queen bitches of a manager, I have heard has made my absolutely sweetheart of a manager leave!! So if they want a reference I'm gunna have to track her down as she knows how ruddy hard I worked for the company and I know I can get the reference I deserve. & will they need to see our education qualifications?? Because I can't find some of my certificates if need be.

    Cheers!!

I think I remember writing down previous employers but I'm not sure if Disney got a reference from them.

How about for merch? Does anyone know the kind of hours? I get the idea that there is a smaller number of merch staff?

Also for the phones, a friend of mine is out there at the moment and she is on boost mobile.... looks okay I think, does anyone know anything about this? I was thinking of splurging alittle and getting a blackberry on their contract (you buy the phone and top up each month, but its like pay and go, unless you miss a months contract then your account is unactivated) the phone is $150 and then you have to top up $60 a month for unlimited internet, phone calls and texts...

I know they also do cheaper offers on other phones!!

if your in merch then getting a blackberry is going to cost you a fortune!!!! most people just get the cheap mobile handsets from walmart and use the refill cards to top up credit, i had a $30 nokia, on the AT & T network and it was fine, lasted all year, obviously it was just for calls and texts but it was fine and if you have your laptop you dont need an expensive blackberry or iphone etc..... especially if your in merch!!!

cant help with hours in merch, kinda depends on where you work tho, my chinese room mate didnt normally get home untill 11pm most nights when she worked the close shift.....

Yeh I would use it as a substitute laptop though!! All my family (the ones I'd want to contact :p) have blackberries so would be able to BBM them, its basically either or!!!! :) I got a netbook but have had to send it back, so this is a backup option for me if for some reason they can't sort it out and I decide I want my money back :)

i dont think on merch wages a bb is a good idea cos with everything else to pay for that will be a big chunk coming out of your account

one thing to be wary of in the us is you get charged for sending and receiving calls/texts

Sorry to be annoying to the people that are already over there but I keep thinking of questions.

What happens in the first week? So, say we move into the housing on the Tuesday, I know there is a traditions class at some point, but apart from that I have no idea what to expect from the first week or so, any guidance?

Hope everyone is ok, either already in Florida or getting ready to go

The day after you arrive you will have an early morning meeting at your housing complex - lots of form filling! Starts about 8.30am and they provide breakfast (juice, croissants etc!) the following days you will have more meetings (Both at the housing complex and in epcot) there's also a very early morning trip to the social security office one morning, traditions and a day called discovery day where you get taken round epcot and get loads of work related info (eg how to get backstage to work etc)

Prepare to be very tired in your first week though...aparantly jet lag doesn't exist in Disney. I heard of Norweigans that didn't arrive till 2am on the Wednesday morning then had to be at the clubhouse at 9am for that meeting.

And Jackson...I'm so jealous...we never got breakfast!

Kaz, the merchies tend to start earlier than us. I think the shops open at 10:30 whereas the restaurant doesn't till 12, so you can start at 9:30-10 ish. (Just think of the Norweigans, their earliest shift start is 7:15 aparantly eek lol.)

I think they finish about the same time as podium though...around 10ish (not 100% sure though)...unless they're on tragic...if so then unlucky...you could get out at 1am.

Also I know a lot of people here are on Metro PCS. It's $60 a month for unlimited texts inc international and free calls to international landlines (I think...it may be mobiles, but it's one or the other.) Personally I've just got a $15 crap phone from Walmart. I pay $15 a month for unlimited texts and just never use it for calls lol. If I want to speak to home, I just use Skype.

oooh...more info! Thanks Em! Esp, the phone stuff!! I'll be getting one of those $15 ones too :)

Can't believe I'll actually get to meet you soon :) Does anyone know the housing situation at the moment...some of the guys I know who went out last week got put in Vista and chatham...is this likely for us too?

Another thing I've though of is going out/ fancy dress stuff. Is it worth taking loads of stuff out or do people just get stuff there? x x x

10am! That's not too bad, last store I worked in it was 8, so thats lush!!

Found out my laptop is on its way home to me, so I think I will also be doing a cheapy one! I didn't really want to be obligated to $60 a month, but its a good backup!

Thank you for your reply hun!!

And Kat - good shout with the fancy dress!!! :) xx
