Just saw this on Yummy Jobs. May be able to claim back some Tax which we pay from our wages http://www.yummyjobs.com/taxback
One thing to note - Yummy Jobs is promoting a paid service. The company taxback.com will do your tax returns for you for a fee, so you get the remaining part of the refund. I struggled to get them to give me a quote on how much they'd take as a fee. Alternatively you could fill in a 1040NR U.S. Non Resident Alien Income Tax Return by yourself from the IRS website irs.gov to avoid the fee if you feel you're up to it. (on the website select individuals, then forms and publications, then forms and instructions)
Andrew: how much do they actually take off? Is it a percentage of how much we are due back? And another one .... is the other form you mentioned difficult to complete?
Hi Louise - when I filled in their form for a quote, they emailed back saying I owed the US gov't over $2000! I definitely don't so gave up on them. A new person on here called 'taxrefunds' posted on the ICP section offering to do it for $15. I think this is the form: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040nr.pdf Its quite long, but given the simplicity of the refund we're requesting - we just want some federal taxes back, it looks manageable. There's a 47 page instruction manual to go with it! http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040nr.pdf My dad advised me to do it myself rather than pay someone and did this kind of thing for his living, so could give me help - I haven't started filling it in yet. If millions of americans manage it, then it must be possible. Its hard to advise, as the form looks a bit daunting on first inspection. Good luck with your dissertation. Andrew
all that was very daunting! So can anybody answer me this question are we paid into our UK Bank account i have a few direct debits i have to pay each month, if not how can we put money into our account in the uk?
You are paid into an American account, either one set up with Disney (if you choose - easy option) or a regular bank. Not sure if you could wire the money over..I've got the same problem (if I pass f2f, so what this isn't my forum I like to browse ) You do get a tax rebait after you return home, its usually a few grand ($) and obviously depends on exchange rates at the time but I'm pretty sure most people come out with a couple K. Not usually til at least a few weeks after you arrive back home though
i actually think you can get some sent out to a uk account, not sure how. but if you can't you can transfer money via western union or paypal
Is the wage enough to live on out there? Is Walmart quite cheap? Do they sell everything like Asda in the UK?
I worked it out that even on the $7.95 rate, you should live comfortably as long as we don't go to mad on our spending ;D Walmart is awesome, it's like ASDA yep. I think there's a couple in the Orlando area. The one i've been to had more clothes, toys ect than food but there was loads of variety (maybe not as much as UK Supermarkets) Price wise, i think it's the cheapest place to shop
There is a bus to a Wallmart in Kissimee but they are at odd times from what I can remember. I used Publix as I was in Chattham and it was in easy walking distance.
You can get everything at Publix. They do real bread as well at the bread counter which is a real plus.
It's more expensive than Wallmart can't really think of an equivalent over here. I usually got a weeks worth of shopping for $25-30 which isn't too bad and included things like ham which I got from the meat counter and cost $8 though you got a lot and it was very good quality. To be honest though I didn't buy a lot eating a lot on property in the mousecateria or made sandwhiches to bring to work. The only shopping trip I made that was uber expensive was my first one when I went to Wallmart and bought bedding and toiletries as I hadn't brought them with me.
