Yeah, Canada is such a big country, its so amazing of you guys to actually fly out for your interviews! [No possible way they should refuse you after that, right? ;)] It'd definitely be nicer if you could interview closer to where you live, though.

I know how you feel - I have absolutely NO experience in food service either, but that's why I'm thinking of FSFB as a good thing. Where better to get experience? [As opposed to retail/merch, which is now forever ruined for me lol] It'll be really nice having some time to prepare! I got an email on thanksgiving weekend, when I wasn't even in the country, about the early interviews, so I was definitely running around everywhere and had NO time to prepare.

@ amna: Do you mind telling us what positions were on the list you had to choose from, if you remember? I've had Character Attendant as my #1 choice for the longest time, but I heard it was not available to people at the UK interviews. So just wondering if it's the same for the Canadian ones!

And congrats on getting accepted!! You're so lucky you found out so soon. I wish I would have had the time to go to those Toronto interviews in October. But it was all very quick and there was a lot of school work to be done! I just hope the 2009 interviews are more convenient!

Hey! Yeah, I know, they were SO soon and out of the blue. I'm really glad I took it though; less people, and I found out a lot faster. Which is very good, I wouldn't be able to handle any stress with the workload I've got next semester, not to mention I probably wouldn't even have had the time to make it out!

I'm pretty sure all the positions available were on the list ... Character Attendant was definitely there, as was FSFB, QSFB, Operations/Attractions, Merchandise, Custodial, Role Hopper, Costuming, Character ... I don't remember what else. Hospitality, Housekeeping, Lifeguard I'm guessing were all there ... Vacation Planner ... you might want to contact your representative to ask what roles specifically are available for you; I'm sure they'd be able to say! Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

I hope the 2009 interviews are more convenient for you too! Let us know how it goes, and what positions ARE available for UK participants!

I thought I'd jump in on this ^_^

I'm filling out my resume as we speak to apply for the College program.

Obviously Character is my number one choice.. heh! I did the cultural rep. program previous to my first year of Uni, and I am missing that florida sunshine something fierce! I can't wait to get this sent in and find out more info about auditioning and the such. My number one priority is getting back there for the summer, but I am definately going to try my best to get into Entertainment ;D

Oh, good luck with that! Sounds like you had fun! I meet so many repeat participants; it's really encouraging. I suppose every position has its pros/cons!

and I personally haven't been to WDW; I have been to Florida and Disneyland though :) You?

There are DEFINATE pros and cons! I have nothing good to say at all about the busses that take you to and from work, but those horror stories are so laughable that they amused me then, and they amuse me now :D

I hadn't been to Disney before... aand then I was hired! Haha, it was my first time in a park when they took us on a tour for 'Traditions' and I was slack-jawed and amazed the whole time. I have a total love affair with the parks, with the characters, and even the guests. And I completely love Florida :D It definately feels like a second home to me, considering I spent a year there!

I'm originally from Saskatchewan but I'm going to Uni here in Guelph - and I'm just concerned about this Toronto business! I am NOT a metropolis person, oh gosh. The interviews were really fun (and the videos were so cheesy, but in a High-School-Musical-Fun-Cheesy way, haha) so I'm not worried at all.
    But navigating around Tdot? Bahhhh!

If you want to add me on facebook, feel free! Ashley Dawn Marie Booth, and I have a billion pics from my experience in the Canadian pavillion and the parks, if you have any questions!

I would love to be a character! Im worried about the heat thing though, i would love more than anything to be a face character but thats never going to happen :(

I've been to florida like 7 or 8 times i think, and been to disney each time. But only having applied for this have i realised ive missed so much! but now i may have the opportunity to spend three months!! soo exciting, getting way to into it!

i need to organise all my paperwork!! ???

Oi, the heat! It would be insane in a fur character costume, but the breaks seem nice. I even know walking on the main promenade on and off breaks, and to start shifts, would leave me shiny and grooooooss! But I imagine all that hardcore sweating is a nice way to shed some pesky pounds :p

As far as face characters, you have to belieeeeeeve! (Insert rainbows and things, here, haha).
Wigs and makeup do magic of their own. I have definately seen face characters of all shapes and sizes and ages! I hear the audition process can be really campy and fun, so I look forward to that, however it'll roll! I was told once by a photopass guy to audition, and he said if anything, it'd be a really fun experience!

    Paperwork = :'(

Haha, ya I wish they would let us in for traveling so far for the interview :)

True, doing FSFB in Disney would be an amazing way to get experience. And some of the places have such cool costumes! Ya, all my experience is in Merch but I think working Merch at Disney will be so much fun. I just hope they have a lot of positions to choose from when I have my interview. Did Kristen interview you at the face 2 face?

Hey Ashley! I definitely stalked you down. Hahaha, I love your name, especially because there's only one of you on Facebook! ;)
It sounds like you had such a good time at WDW, I'm always amazed at how many people have good experiences there! Really somethin' else, eh? I totally know how you feel about second home ... I have a few of those too. Moreso than where I actually live, anyway ahahah. How do you like Guelph? That isn't too far from me :) Don't worry so much about Toronto transit, it's actually surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it; it's really nice because it's such a big system, and all the information you really need is online.

ginabelle, I can imagine the heat would get insane ...and sweaty, that's pleasant! I hear really interesting things about the hangers used to air those costumes out ;) and if you're going to audition, good luck!

and ariella, I think merch would definitely be awesome at Disney...for the chance to be there, I think just about anything would be awesome, lolol. Kristen didn't do any interviewing - the people interviewing were Roger, and [Sue? Jennifer? Susan? Forget her name...]

Oh, for anyone wondering, I have dates - May 26 to Aug 7!

    ps...aaaagh paperwork!! *horrified expression*

Holy Jesus that is a long time to wait! That would almost kill me! But I suppose this gives you a decent amount of time to have registrars sign papers to prove you're actually a student (they take forever in my experience, ugh, Uni beaurocracy) and to scrimp up the cash for flights there and food to survive off of... haha.

Which residence did you apply to? I can't imagine living anywhere but the Commons... haha. Actually, five (FIVE!) amazing people from my contract are going to be back on the cultural rep program as of June so I at least know that if I'm not living there, I will *be* there, especially for Monday Nights (heh heh heh).

And, you know, pending that I get in and all, I am so exicted to be in an over-21 apartment this time!

But I am still pondering over Chatham-Vista (and I guess the newly opened Patteson Court... which was finished just before I left).

And the fact we have SO MANY ROLES TO CHOOSE FROM OH DEAR GOD. I didn't EVER know anyone who had the chance to be a Bibbity Bobbity Boutique Fairy Godmother! Their costumes are friggen cute, AND they now have the chance to work in the MK (they just opened that boutique as I left, I think). I don't know how much I'd like to work in Downtown Disney... I would probably spend all my money at the Virgin megastore or get fat on ice cream from Ghiradellis for lunch!

LOLOLOL distraction by WDW rambling! Shucks, don't make the wait harder, woman! Mmmmm it's a longish time, but it's not so bad. The year flies by so fast anyway, and I know some people that have had to wait quite a bit longer. It seems longer since I took the early interview - which I'm REALLY glad I did [I think I've only mentioned this 394890 times now]. Peace of mind, man! We already dealt with the registrar and accreditation ...stuff ... it actually didn't take that long! I don't think I'll be able to scrimp and save for this, though. I'm relying entirely on my parents. All the money I make gets saved [THAT'S scrimping] for an exchange program I want to go on after this, and the money I DO get to spend only gets spent on food. [Giant fan, doncha know]

We haven't applied to residences...I don't particularly care where I get in; I care more about the people I'd live with. It helps that I've never seen any of the residences! But in my first year of uni I lived in the biggest res in all of Canada... so, I'm used to living with just about anyone. So do tell, what are Monday nights at the Commons? ;) It's still weird to think about 21 being legal age there, even though uhh, I grew up with that age of majority lol -- what a drag. Are the wellness apartments calmer there or is there more drinking, I'd like to know?

There ARE a lot of roles to choose from! But since I never heard about this program until this past summer, I don't know of any time where there weren't so many lol. It sure does make choosing hard! And I guess especially since you did the CRP, which has fewer roles ... what are you looking at doing, do you know? What did you do before?

Ohhh don't talk to me about food...I'm definitely waiting to see if anyone will go out with me for dinner. Sniff.

If i get in I will!!! ;D I luuuuurve food!! I want to try the new T Rex restaurant!! Sounds amazing.

I've just been at work, and we've just talked about disney non stop, and what roles i should take. Im worried about going for character performer, but im worried that if i don't pass the audition in florida i may get a role i dont want....like not one of my top choices.
does that ever happen?! Any ideas what happens in the auditions? I want to be a face character more than anything though....heres wishing!

Hope you've all had a nice evening.

amna - will you be 21 when you're htere?! Im turning 21 out there, if i get in. biiig party i think!! hehehe!

I dont mind where i live, there not far from each other and everything else! id like to know people on all :)

If you don't pass audition, I do believe they place you in another role, but hopefully one on your list.

If you go to the college program website there's a little video on the audition, so I suggest you look it up if you're nervous. As far as I understand, you audition when you get there.

And as far as wellness apartments go, they are DEFFO more quiet. Parties are held at over 21 ONLY apartments, because if there is drinking caught by security (who roam around and are magically attracted to music and lights and parties in general) then the tenants are termed (disney speak, terminated, means fired, means you are out of the country within 48 hours as your visa is DONE).

And hee heee I thought I was living in the biggest rez in Canada! It's home to about 1,700 students at least, which is maaassive for one building!
Disney apartments are a lot more diverse than anything really, which I loved. There are definately people from all over the world, TOTALLY MESSY and TOTALLY NEAT FREAKS so it makes for an always unusual but amusing living condition. I was lucky to have a girl move in to my apartment in my second month and we stay best friends to this day (and have travelled to New York and the Bahamas on our contract together!).

Monday Nights at the Commons is in my top three things I have missed most. Hahaha ;)
It's the one night every country gets into their drinking teams (almost every country has one, sans China, Japan, and South Africa, but if you're from there and want in we have defiantely accepted honourary members before! Americans too!) which are separated into a guys team and a girls team.
The UK has Lads and Lasses, Norways has Flikaboo (girls) and Snikaboo (boys), Canada has No Ma'am (guys) and Canadian Girls Drinking Team (creative, I know), and so forth. Usually you get together with your 'team' and just party with your favourite ladies and new family members :) There are usually themes, and when there isn't, there are drinking team t-shirts you wear. After the initial team meet-ups you meet another country and party hardy~

Non drinkers and underagers are totally encouraged, too! It's about hanging with your international family, and having a good time! And I personally loved the dressing up. And kicking France's ass at Flip Cup ;)

I LOVE FLIP CUP!!!!! I am definitely going to be turning 21 (if) when I get out there!!! I was thinking about applying to be a character too (a fur one though ;)). I'll have to go check out that video, I'm sure it'll help a lot. Somewhere else on this board, I think on the "any Canadians" post, someone put up their blog from their experiences at Disney and she was a character performer so she wrote all about the audition process which was really interesting and pretty much the reason why I want to apply for that position!! It just sounds amazing!!!

The characters are my favourite part of Disney ;) As an English/Studio Art major, I'm all... you know... into the fairy tales and the animation! Haha, Snow White has a tender place in my heart (obvie, *points to pic* haha).

Every role has it's special moments, though. Working at Kidcot in the world showcase I got to talk to kids all the time and draw them little princesses or Stitches on their crafts and write a little, "Love, from Canada" message and they would die of appreciation and I would die of cuteness. Too cool :)

Flip Cup is a Canadian Tradition. Beer Pong is played often in the other countries (There is an epic beer pong table passed down between members of the German drinking team, it is SO AWESOME AND GROSS) but we really bring Flip Cup love to the Commons, I think. We used to have a Canadian Flip Cup tourny every wednesday until it was just too tiring to show up to work (and we all did, believe me, if you drink, you SUCK IT UP THE NEXT DAY haha) all haggard and beaten. Also, I lost my keys far too much in a rage of losing because I am AWFUL AT flipping that effin cup.

Oh yes and I forgot to answer that last question! There are three roles to choose from for the Cult. Rep job in Canada - food and bev (mad tip$!), merch (basic, pretty laid back, can be frustrating b/c of the guests and stereotyping us) and Attractions (my love!).

I was Attractions, loved my spiel, loved kidcot, and hated idiot questions about plaid. If I had a nickel... haha.

Hahah I am just so quick at answering these! I'm doing homework, I swear! I'm just painting and waiting for layers to dry a bit in between so this is the perfect distraction.

Also, Amna, I have tonnes of pics from Monday Nights in my facebook. Around five pages back into the disney stuff there are some ideas of our themes ;)
