Hee hee, Mickey Mingle! (yes I have the brain of a 4-year old) That would be really cool though. What about language barriers?
Language barriers aren't really a problem as everyone who participates on the programme has to have a high standard of English anyway. That way when you have people from all over the world in the apartment and the only common language between you all is English then thats what everyone will tend to speak!! The only time this may become an issue is if you have a few people from the same country in the one apartment and they speak their mother tongue all the time and you can't understand what theyre saying!! (I never experienced this though as for most of my contract I lived in a one-bedroom with a fellow Brit!) M xx
Unfortunately I'd have to disagree with the above statement. I live with a Chinese girl and a Japanese girl whose level of English is very basic at best. They're always asking me to explain notes and letters etc to them and half the time when I talk to them they obviously don't understand. I make an effort to talk slowly too and with as little accent as possible but there are just some countries from which their level of English isn't that high.
So long as we're near each other I don't care....I don't want to have to walk to the other end of the Commons to drag you out of bed to come with me to the parks
I agree with Emi, it can be hard to make yourself understood to others and trying to drop an accent is mighty hard. One time in particular was when I went into a store in Universal and asked the shop girl "Where can I find Lucy: A Tribute", she tried giving me directions to Terminator, then I asked again and she said "Sorry but I don't speak Itallian" I stormed out of the store and got my sister to go find out. I'm from the UK, N. Ireland in particular and have never been mistaken for Itallian before, looking back I find it funny. My dad always gets mistaken for Scottish.
My roomate last year was from Vietnam, and we didn't really have a problem (well she was studying in London so she spoke very good English) I just found it hard sometimes to understand her!
