It isn't required that we have some sort of coverage during the entire duration of our program?? That IS insane lol. I kinda wish Disney just said this is what we have to do so there wasn't any guess work involved.

if you're not a clutz and you're not a baby when it comes to getting sick, don't bother getting more insurance!!! unless you have a friend that freaks out that you don't have it hahaha! but seriously just get what you need at the beginning!!

Ugh, medical insurance is a NIGHTMARE. During my cultural rep. year there, I got an eye infection from an overzealous child jumping me at kidcot and stabbing my eye (ah hah, try explaining that one away to the insurance companies) which was covered, and I got Strep Throat TWICE (and I wasnt being a terribly naughty person at all, despite what the doctor was accusing, hah!). It is VERY easy to catch these kinds of things in living complexes where you have crazy close contact with so many people and especially at work where you kind of encounter diseases from aaaaaround the world!
When I was down for the cult. rep program I got covered by CAA for the first few months and took Disney's insurance afterwards - each doctor visit for the FIVE MINUTES they saw me to confirm it was strep throat and scribble a prescription would of cost me HUNDREDS of dollars. YIKES. The medication was partly covered as well, but I did end up paying 20$ or something for it (better than the 80$ or so regular).

So just a heads up! You can't really avoid getting sick, and strep throat suuuuuuucked! BOTH times! aaahaha

what did you do about work when you got it?
Did you have to have time off? - if so did you get paid or no?

Since it's contagious I wasn't technically *allowed* to work and to put the public at risk. You are allowed to take sick days of course, as long as they don't add up to a termination-able amount! After getting the meds I was no longer contagious and free to work wooo! Which in itself is kind of a punishment because I had extensive spieling to do. Lucky I had amazing coworkers that would cover my spieling rotations :)

And you definately don't get paid for calling in sick! lol - you do get 'vacation' pay however, if you are there for a longer amount of time (the Cultural Reps, usually) and if you don't use your vacation time you just get the amount in your last cheque!

Not a problem! Wikipedia explains it all!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streptococcal_pharyngitis

It's basically a bad throat infection that makes it terribly painful to swallow, eat, speak, and sometimes even breathing is awful. It's transmitted by direct contact and is easily treatable... just expensive to do so in the states!

...so if you get sick you have to have proof and go to the doctor or what?

Haha I KNOW! The doctor just eyed me funny and is like "You live in those disney student housing places, huh" and slowly raised his eyebrows. I just sighed and nodded. Haha, for the record, sharing drinks is probably what truly did me in!

I went to the doctor at like two in the morning because I was having issues trying to fall asleep and breathe at the same time! Hah! You're allowed to call in sick a number of times and it's sort of an automated phone line you call. They ask for your name, work location, start time, etc, and reason for not coming to work, so I basically just croaked out "Sick.. strep throat". No need for a doctors note unless you're going to be away from work for a LONG amount of time, and they really don't like it when THAT happens. Three days in a row is the max and it was plenty :)

so jeni which have you gone for then?

Im concerned about the med insurance cos although i don't tend to get ill, when i do i get it really bad...my biggest concern tho is the dental side of things cos i got cracked in the mouth 2 years ago and ever since then i repeatedly get toothache.

How is the dental side of the insurance ppl have gone for? has anyone had dental problems out there? was the disney insurance good for it or would it be better to go through another company?
