So i won't be joining u until october but i'm invading the board anyway.

I want to book a one way ticket too and see some places afterwards. I don't know what sort of proof we have to show that we are going back since when i went in the summer all i needed was proof that i had another year of my course left.

I think the visa is about £60-£70 that was how much i paid for my visa last summer and that was a j1 visa as well.

The birmingham college is pretty nice. It's basically one tall building with lots of floors. Theres a cafe which we sat in to fill out applications and for lunch. Didn't really see much of it but it all looked good.

I would have thought you would just need a one way ticket just incase (dont want to contemplate this, but) that you get termed and need to leave the country straightaway - the return ticket would be wasted. Though i'm sure that would be the least of my worries if i was termed.

I think immigration only need proof of a return ticket if you enter on a tourist visa though i could be wrong with that.

They must have changed the rules and everything because when I did the J1 Academic (2006/2007 program pilot group!) Disney arranged our flights and stuff. And our visa's were sponsored by a US University (so we had to do class work for them as well as our home universites and Disney classes). I paid £65 for my J1A visa (which is different from a J1 visa), but how no idea what happens now...I wish I was more help LOL

Well as far as I know I won't be hearing from Kristin just yet. I have no email from her :(. I guess they are gonna get the July people sorted before the october people which makes sense. So please let me know if you find out any interesting info.

i'm pretty sure you have to have a retrun flight, but you can pay a bit more so that it is flexible which mens you can change the airport you leave from and the date you leave on. Will be cheaper than two one way tickets i'd have thought!

That's good news. I think I'll definately invest in that.

Yea I was thinking it seems like better value to book a return flight and just pay a little to change the times later on if needs be!

Make sure you know the conditions of how flexible the flight is! i booked on the flight yummy told us to, and when i was in orlando i rang up to change it and after many phone calls i found out it would cost $200 to change, could only be changed up to 5 days before or after the original date, and i had to leave from the same airport it was originally booked for. Now at the time i didn't book a flexible flight, so i guess it was my own fault :-[. This time if i get the job i'l know to ask for one!

Loads really but not much I didn't know already. She mentioned the Visa would be $100 and we would have to visit the embassy a month or so before departure. There are also $100 to pay for some kind of student assesment, and $85 for making sure the apartments ready and to fund staff socials. She also talked about the criminal assesment and all other kinds of forms she's gonna email next week. Tuition fees are due on day of arrival

Nothing exciting. Just all about the dough really. :'(

Thanks for the info guys. $2000/1800 on arrival for tutition? Is that supposed to be in cash? Thats a lot of money to carry around as well as spending money. Definately glad i'm going in october cause i seriously need to save up.

I never asked was it supposed to be in cash or not! Didnt even think about it!
I thought we would just have to pay yummy for our medical insurance not find it ourselves ???
I asked her aswell if we'd be picked up from the airport coz the 15th is a Sunday and she said we would and it wont matter what time we arrive at we'll still be picked up- I thought I read somewhere that they only pick up during office hours!
