Leaving July 15th, J1 Academic Program

Just phoned the embassy - that was a right pain!!
First person I spoke to wouldn't let me book without the DS-2019 form number, so hung up and phoned again! The second person I spoke to let me book, going Wednesday 27th June (she tried to give me an appointment the week before, but I pushed her for the week after!)
She mentioned something about maybe having to pay another fee on top of the $100, but she couldn't tell because I didn't have the DS-2019 form number - did anyone else get told something like this?? Don't want to end up paying more money out!

 

Yes you have to pay a Servis fee, but you pay it online anytime up to 3 days before the interview. It is $100 also. Kristen sent me the visa instructions and heres what i interpret the yummy info as saying about it...

It is to do with the US Congress maintaining that we keep our status as a student in the states and don't just get there and quit. There is a page of info on it tho and it all went over my head so it could mean something else entirely. You HAVE to take a receipt for this payment to the embassy appointment.

Im not paying it until we get our froms from UCF though.

Did they tell you on the phone you need to take proof of ties to the UK? he asked if I had my own property and I said no coz I'm a student and he said a letter from my parents would be fine. I'm asking my university referee to write me a letter to say I'm applying for UK further education in 2008.

He also said I needed to take bank statements to proove I can support myself in the US, but I did not mention I'd be doing paid work while studying, so that's probably why. Our letter from Disney apparently shows we will be able to support ourselves in the US, but I'm taking a statement just in case.

 

Cheers for that Dylan - I understand now, there are two payments of $100 that we have to pay - gutted!
I won't pay that or book my train tickets until I get that DS-2019 form through.

They said nothing about proof of ties or bank statement to me.

Can't believe we can't take mobile phones or ipods, gonna be bored stiff on the train for 2hours!!

 

they said i couldnt take ipods etc last eyar but i took it all in an sat texting people! not usre if they've cracked down on it tho so im gona take mine and get a locker at the train station

 

I've just printed off my complete DS-156 form and the barcode on page 3 doesnt look like a barcode at all, its just really distorted. It's not my printer as it looks distorted on screen too. I have tried twice. Is this normal or should I use another PC so it looks like a proper barcode?

^Ignore that. i checked on a friends pc and their barcode looks normal and not like a static television. Ill have to do the form again ugh.

Other questions:

There is no where to sign and date on the male only form. (DS-157) Is this correct?

 

I dont think i'll be able to cope all day in London without my iPod.

I didn't get told to bring anything like that (i must be more trustworthy than you dylan ) I havent filled it in yet, but i can't see anywhere to sign on the DS-157.

 

It really confused me that male only form..I didn't even really understand why i had to sign it..Its pretty sexist for a start if you ask me!

 

Yeah I thought it was really sexist too, but there's gotta be some motive behind it. I spent an hour doing my DS-156 and printed it and noticed that I have ticked Gibralta as my home country and the bar code was all fuzzy. So Im going to have to fucking do it again.

 

The form isn't sexist because it only affects men, but if it was to discriminate women then all hell would break loose and there would be complaints left, right and centre, but because it's against men then it doesn't count :

im at work and havnt checked the post yet but im so excited to get home now and look!! whats in it?

they sure do! i asked kristen if our frms didnt arrive in time to pay sevis wether they cud just email the info off the ds2019 and she said that ucf have been sending the forms out at random intervals so some people will have their stuff quicker than others :'(

7. evidence of having enough money
8. evidence of going back to europe after the program
9. and in germany we have to pay 80€ to some rosko meyer bank...dunno if you also have to do it!

those are the things on my list....am i missing anythhing??

3 Males only – completed DS 157
4 The Non immigrant Visa Interview Confirmation letter
Copy of the MRV fee receipt
5 Your passport
6 Passport Photo
7 The fully completed DS-2019 Form - Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status
8 Proof of Payment of the $100 SEVIS Fee
9 £13.50 payment for the courier to return your passport to you (except Belfast appointments)
10 • Your Disney Job Offer Letter (this proves you will have sufficient funds to support yourself in the US)
• Your acceptances letter from University of Central Florida
(both of these letters will be sent with the DS-2019 form)
