Hey James, welcome to the boards There's a ridiculous amount of information on here, so you should be able to find everything you're looking for! I've spent far too many hours reading blogs, watching vlogs and generally going through these boards. At the moment I have my cover letter mostly written, but since it's from the last applications (I'm currently waitlisted, but with only 2 months left I'm not holding out much hope at this point!) I need to update it a little. Besides that, just a lot of hoping and wishing!
Thanks! I am looking through some blogs and stuff, it's all interesting. I have done plenty of research on the programme itself so I think I feel clued up enough - what is the earliest you would start work of you apply in Jan 2012? My CV is all up-to-date, just gotta do the cover letter. My written English is good but I do waffle sometimes and I don't really know where to start with it! I want this so badly. I adore this place, and I'm dreading leaving when my holiday ends on Monday. I know WDW, Universal, International Drive and the LBV areas like the back of my hand - I BELONG out here!
Hey James! I'm in the same boat. My CVs all prepared but got to sort out my cover letter, just can't seem to know where to start! I don't want to sound really boring but then I don't want to go the other way and sound really over the top and unprofessional. Ahh! Anyone got any advice on the cover letter?
Hey Bryony Glad I'm not the only one! How's your CV looking? I've seen some people talking about having a Disney-specific CV - how can you do that? My CV is just....my CV. Details of previous jobs, tasks, experience and interests.
With the whole 'Disney-specific CV' thing, I think it's making sure you emphasise the jobs you've had that are relevant to Disney more than other jobs. So, if you've spent a year working in a customer facing role, make sure you highlight that more than, say, a job in an office. In my cover letter I talked about why I'd be perfect for the role in WDW - how the jobs I've had are relevant, how my personality fits etc. I also talked about my own personal experience in WDW. I think it's pretty much up to you how much you make it about you versus Disney, and how you lay it out (ie. how much 'fun' you use, versus keeping it very professional), because I've heard of people getting through using both techniques. I've also heard of people getting through without using a cover letter at all, so who knows!
Ah ok then. Thanks for the info! It's all making my head swirl a bit but hey ho some of us shall have to meet up if we get interviews
haha don't worry you'll get used to it! i was like that before i did the ICP last year and now it comes naturally!
The earliest would prob be august 2012 to go out if they follow the same pattern as last year - it depends on when the f2f interviews are My cover letter has to be a lil different because I have done the programme before but generally a cover letter is your chance to tell YJ why you should go to disney, what you can give to disney and what you can gain from the experience
Ok, thanks. I will start work on it this week and maybe find some people to look over it. And I hope I won't be waiting tooo long to get out there if I get on the programme! Tinks - glad I'm not alone with the whole Disney CM language I'm leaving Orlando tomorrow. Couldn't want to come home any less if I tried :'( if I have it my way, I'll be out here for a year from next year! Can't get enough of this place.
I'm getting that exciting feeling I got at this stage last time I did the program! All those who get there next year are gonna be soooo lucky! Make the most of it. And hopefully I'll see you all there. ;D
The warm fuzzy expectant feeling brewing I just got started on my new blog so I am hopeful this time I get through and actually get to keep it up I know what you mean about belonging out in Orlando - I feel the same been going there at least once a year since I was 4 years old and plan to retire there when I am old as well so another year out there with Disney would be great
According to an email that Yummy sent the other waitlisted Emma ( ), the timeline for these applications is going to be a bit shorter than last time, with the F2F being in March or April rather than June.
I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the dates of things again - this one in take/interview a year is a new idea so they were probably tweaking out the kinks in it. That being said I kinda agree the sooner the better lol although the longer the mroe time to save and the more ER's you can take before your broke Actually just for anyone who has no idea about some of the disney speak: ER - early release - you get to finsih work early for the day ADO - authorised day off - an extra day off in addition to your regular days off My friday - cos disney is a 7 day a week thing your friday aka weekend can be any time in the week so people say like yay my friday tomorrow when its tuesday protein spill - someones up chucked 101 - somethigns broken Cant think of anymore right now cos its late and my braind dead lol will try and remember some others tomorrow
Good news - an earlier decision from them either way would make it easier for me to get something sorted work-wise or teacher training-wise if I don't get the gig! Argh, tell me about it. I feel so at home and at ease here. Leaving tomorrow is gonna suck ASS! Christmas decorations went up in Magic Kingdom a few days ago. Saw them last night (see my avatar) and they look amazing! Not making me feel Christmassy at all but as a spectacle....wow! Which out of fellow applicants are on BookFace? Add me if you want! Name is James Schooley - I don't think I've hidden myself from searches!
So... It's less than 2 months till the applications open :O That would be really good if it's that short... I submitted my application about a week after they opened this year, and the wait to find out if we even had a telephone interview was just horrible! Is there anyone from the south of England here? Feel free to add me on Facebook... Link is in my signature Good Luck everyone!
