Just call up as many insurance policies as you can and get quotes. You'll soon find which ones won't cover you and which ones will. If you have a pre-existing medical condition it can be difficult, but I went with Insure & Go who are really good, will cover my condition, and it only cost £274 for 12 months (there's no point in getting only 4 months and then finding out Disney won't cover me). I got the Backpackers Gold, which was only £30 more expensive than silver and I won't have to pay any excess if anything happens. If you don't have a condition, 24/7 is supposed to be quite good. But as I said, hunt around and phone them up for quotes. If you don't do that you'll never find out who is good! There's no point in deciding on one company, phoning them up to purchase the insurance, and then finding out they won't cover conditions, or won't cover you if you're working (which I found out about BUPA!) I must have tried at 15 different companies. Just phone phone phone!
Guys whats the best insurance for me to get? I have arthritus in several joints and need a monthly blood test can anyone suggest who the best company for me to use? (my doctor tells me the heat will do me good)
daz, it'll be a case of checking round different insurance companies! calm down dear, you've got ages to sort it.
I've had a look on 24/7 I need Backpackers cover don't i? Not annual multi-travel? Are people going for the standard or premium level of cover?
i think im gonna go for the premium as its not that much more expensive and looks like it should cover any eventuality pretty well fully
Does anyone know of a telephone number for Insure and Go? I need to find an insurance that allows me to have blood tests in the US. Can anyone help me?
This insurance stuff is such a drag! Insure and Go are on - 0844 888 2787. The thing with insurance is that it's more of an 'emergencies only' kind of thing, for stuff you don't expect to happen while you're away, and not for things you know you'll need. I'm going to get insurance with them because they cover my condition. Even though it'll mean I won't be able to claim the costs of my blood tests or prescriptions, I hope that it'll still work out cheaper in the long run. There are some insurance companies out there that will cover things like this. But they're generally a lot more expensive than the normal kind. But it still might be worth paying that bit more and knowing you won't have any additional costs while you're away for your treatment you need. It's really important to go onto the websites and read the small prints. Some companies give a list of conditions they'll cover as standard - and things like asthma and arthritis are normally always included. What the companies say is they'll let you be covered by them even with the conditon, and if something totally unexpected pops up as a result of the condition you can claim back. Things like medications you already take aren't included in this because you know you need them. Other companies like STA won't cover you at all for anything that comes up as a result of a condition you already have - so its worth going for one that includes it as standard just in case. But if anyone finds a decent one that cover routine testing and medication costs then give me a shout because I'd like it
I called Insure and Go and i found them quite expensive. They do not cover having blood tests in Florida! I was wondering does anyone know how much Disney take from youre wage if you have there insurance and what does it cover?
I've no idea. As Jo said, most insurance companies won't cover any treatment you know you will need for any pre-existing medical conditions. As for Disney insurance, I didn't take it out so I've no idea what it covers. All I know is that they probably wouldn't have covered me, because they wouldn't cover a girl in merch who had a condition.
I have recieved an e mail from Florida Centracare, and have details for Florida Hospital Celebration Health, so im gonna e mail them to get more info what a job to sort all this!
Good thinking Daz. Let us know if you get any info back. I emailed a general practice company in Florida and they said we'd need to get in contact with a Primary Care Doctor when we arrive in Florida, and that they'd help us sort that out. They'll prob charge us too but we'll maybe have to get used to that lol. Maybe call you GP and get some information on the cost of your blood test, then figure out if it's worth paying extra for a better covering insurance or just sticking with what you have. Maybe the US embassey will have some information too.
Looks like i'll be going with Travel Direct too. Maybe going for the Gold one and save myself a massive £13 as i don't think i need hijack cover
