No problem! Good luck ! And if you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask - I'm always happy to help.
Hey! I'm applying for ICP Summer 2011 from Ontario. I'm super excited! It's all I can think about and I'm literaly dreaming about Disney 24/7. I was going to apply last year but it was first year University so life got a little hectic to say the least. But this year I'm applying before life can get away from me. I'm a little unclear on a few things- What day do the apps open up for Canada I know June but what day in June? As well is there an actually application or just a cover letter + resume? thanks
Yay! I'm from Ontario too! And going into 2nd year uni! If you don't mind me asking, what uni are you at? Just curious, cause i think it would be pretty epic if we went to the same one! I'm thinking/dreaming Disney too! Applications open in july, I know because I emailed to find out. And yes there is a physical application process, you have to upload your cover letter and resume in the same file I gather and fill out the application at yummyjobs.com when it opens. The name of our contact here in Canada is Kristen, and I was going to email my cover letter/resume to her just in case as well, but if leomgray or someone who has done the process before can tell me if that's necessary or not, then all the better (and I would thank them immensely! ). For your resume/cv (because I saw you post about that in another topic) my advice to you would be the same as I wrote above... just write the experience you do have, find a way to make it applicable and sell yourself and your enthusiasm as much as you can!! Good luck, and definitely don't hesitate to ask anything else.
If you want to reassure yourself that your cv/cover letter has been sent to yummyjobs then by all means email it to Kirsten. The first year i applied they didnt have the website so we had to send our CVs by email anyway and write a convincing cover letter. It is easier now with uploading your CV and cover letter onto the application. But for me personally, i prefer the personal touch that can be used with a cover letter and the magic that can come from it. Dont hesitate to ask me any questions either, i am here to help
Hey people! I'm Hazel ;D I'm from the UK too! I've not been in this site in such a long time and I love talking on here! Anyway, I will definately be applying next year. I applied for this summer, go onto the wait list but in the end didn't get a place but it was all good! I'm gonna come back fighting this year he he. I've been thinking about it so much lately too, already thinking about my CV and what I'll say if I get through to the face2face again. It's a really fun experience and I don't have any work experience but I have spent the last year building up my volunteer work so I'll be putting that on my CV. The interviews are really fun and informal and I even won a pin! He he. It was nice to meet loads of people but now I'm so jealous of the people out there right now on my facebook, all putting up pictures! :'( Fingers crossed second time around
Yeh I'm just worried about what Disney wants to see and what would make me stand out amongst others. I feel when applying to Disney it can be hard to make yourself stand out because most people who are applying are really driven and have similar interests (DUH! DISNEY!) So I'm constantly asking myself what do I have that others don't or what would make me great to work at Disney because a love for Disney is great but most people applying have that.
Do you do any volunteer work? Did you move away from uni? I mean the general questions they ask are how would you deal with living with people from all over the world, they ask you the typical scenarios etc. When they ask you the scenarios just make sure you add some Disney magic we all know that Disney has impeccable customer service, so what do they do to make peoples day special? Aside from that, the CV part shouldn't be too hard. I have zero work experience. You need to play up what you've done, as with all CVs. Did you do anything at school? Anything which required responsibility? Were you in any school plays? Did you have a passion for drama? Were you an honour student or a prefect? Can you drive? Did you pass quickly? Those were all things I had done which I talked about. When it got to the face2face they asked me to tell me more about myself, so I told them about what it was like moving to university and compared it to moving to a new country. I told them of my passion for America and I told them about how I volunteered at a radio station and am a journalism student so I'm talking to new people all the time. They want people who are out there, not afraid to talk to people and make friends. If you get through, don't stop smiling! Tell them your Disney dreams. I didn't get through, but I did get on the wait list, so my advice must be good for something? Right? lol
Yeh I have plenty of work and volunteer work, moved away for University, tons of charity work, lots of school groups and organizations. I think it's mostly just the thought that scares me. And I don't always know how different companies want you to handle situations but alot of that comes with the training from that company.
When they put you on a waiting list do they tell you why? Likke what you could imporve or anything or if you get rejected do they tell you what to improve?
Yes i did, but i was unsuccessful in my phone interview so did not get through to the face to face interview. It was really upsetting but it has not put me off reapplying, i was told in my phone interview that it would be harder for alumni as they wanted to give new applicants a chance.
No they don't. Basically, what happens is, they choose the people that they DEFINATELY want, and they get in. Then the rest of the people, they want to work for them, but theres not enough space so you get put on the wait list.
I was really not convinced I would get in to go on ICP 2010 as I am also an alumni... but I did ;D I leave in 6 days!! Very excited. I would advise any alumni so emphasize why they deserve to go back and what they'll do differently - in my interviews I spoke about how the last 2 years of uni (between the ICP 2008 and my interview) had changed me as a person and made me more confident etc etc so how that would benefit my working at Disney... it is actually harder for alumni because they usually want to give everyone a chance to work there and so if you've already been you have to convince them you are amazing! ;D Plus, I was going for a different role this time so I had to talk about why I wanted to go back in a different role (I did merch the first time and main entrance ops this time)... If anyone has any questions feel free to ask!! Also, on my blogs I have detailed the applications process quite a lot for both ICPs I have done - http://magicalsummer2008.blogspot.com and http://magicalsummer2010.blogspot.com ;D
Leomgray - Thanks for answering our questions, and I'm sorry you didn't get through this year. But, like you and everyone else has said - there's always next year! So stay positive! Congrats catfish728! That's really exciting, and thanks for positing your blog! I'm sure it will help us newbies alot ... have fun and enjoy it, keep us posted on how it goes.
No problem, i like to answer questions ;D I know there is always next year and i am going to approach it yet again with the same enthusiasm as always just maybe be a bit more talkative about why i should go back. And Thank You emmdee, you seem a perfect candidate to be a Cast Member and would happily recommend you for any role Anymore questions, dont hesitate to ask
