well i spoke to alexis yesterday morning and she was real nice but blatently honest, you NEED experience in food and beverage basically lol i have tonnes of customer services experience and some retail but they're looking for people at the mo with more f&b experience, or a background in hospitality or tourism... so getting som experience in a bar or restaurant, (alexis even mentioned maccy d's) would definately score you some brownie points... so here i go hunting for another part time job so i can apply nov/dec lol
Wow sounds like they are cracking down on it then I dont have any F&B experience and have been offered a position in F&B. I just had loads of Customer Service experience, I assume thats how I got through, Maybe things are changing then! Colin
i agree with you you defo have to be persistant and if they say your not what they are looking for question them as that shows how much you want the job.I had my phone interview in this group last year was sooooo scared but it turned out cool and now i go in 4 dasy!!! So my main piece of advice is to keep going you never know.
That is weird, it might be just that they got so many applicants from the last round in the other areas that they only need people in F & B. In that case, it might be a good idea to get some experience there. And hey, McDonald's is a pretty neat experiecne to work there. They might not pay great, but it is good experience and you get a greater appreciation for what goes into fast food
When I had my phone interview I was told there are always more people wanted for F&B. I would imagine it's because there only seems to be one maybe two people needed at any time in the HRC as it basically staffs itself with the people who own it, and, when you think about it, you only need say 4 people to work in a merch shop for a shift and there are 3? shops in the UK. To staff the Rose and Crown alone for a shift you need 2 or 3 seaters, 4 or 5 servers, 2 or 3 clearing the tables and 2 or 3 on the bar. (rough guessemations on numbers, not done research on it so could be more, especially on Christmas day, 4th of July Thanksgiving etc) on top of that you have the other F&B stands so you most likely need at least twice the number of cast members for them than you are going to need for Merch. Just my h'penny's worth.
heehee i live in broughty ferry ... aka the posh part of dundee ... hmm :-\ .. nah broughty ferry is quite good , its you know pretty much everyone kinda place, supose that could be a bad point too tho. xxx
@ Megara, I was thinking about that, and you're right, F&B people are in way higher demand, plus their wages are about half of what merch and attractions people make because it's a tipped position, so they can obviously take more people... Wish I'd have known that for my interviews!
Not all F&B is tipped. If you are a tart cart/ seater/ whatever you get payed the same as the Mechies, it's only servers and bar that get tipped (I think, there maybe others I'm too braindead to think of atm) ;D
