I've heard that some people have bought cars whilst they are out there but I really wouldnt see the point if you are only there for a year and all the hassle of trying to sell it again before you leave.....no thanks lol x

I met a guy that was on the program in 2006 and he rented quite a few cars whilst he was there and said that worked out better for him because he could just get one when he needed one and he got to drive lots of cars he'd always dreamed of having like a Mustang haha!!

That seems like a good idea :) Dont you have to be 21 or 25 to rent cars over there? or am I getting confused with the rules over here :/ haha x

The insurance is just higher for under 25's but he was 22/23 at the time and he managed fine! I suppose you just have to work out your money first and see where you stand financially, he seemed to do ok though and was always traveling around new places :)

Yeah I'm 22, I went to Florida last year on holiday and to insure me on a car that we rented was $25 a day extra I think :/ I would have loved to have given driving a go over there but it was a little too pricey x

Yeah i went over in september last year with my best friend, we were both 22 and it was too much to have a car so we just use the buses and also i have friends over there so they gave us lifts to places too so it was all good :) The bus passes are amazingly cheap and theres a bus to pretty much any place you want to get too lol!

I've never used the buses over there and the impression I got was that there isnt much public transport in Orlando, but you've proved my point wrong :)

Eeek, just gonna butt in.. My mum's going to Florida in september and because she can't afford a hire car this time she's gonna be using buses for 2 weeks. It's something as cheap as $30 for a two week pass.. I pay £50 a month for my bus pass here and that's student price :p and like Epiphany said theres a bus for every place pretty much :)x

We thought that before we went but we soon discovered that there was loads when you actually knew where to look! by the end of the holiday we were advising people on the best ways to get to places haha! They obvs take alot longer than having a car but you get to meet people to which is fun haha! :)

They are mega cheap! When we went to get the passes we thought the women had made a mistake on the price so we asked and she looked at us funny haha!

I'm guessing the buses around Disney are free if you are a cast member?? And you'd only have for the public transport outside of Disney :) Sounds like a pretty good way to meet new people, and probably get to see bits of Orlando that you would probably miss if you took a car :) x

Yeah Disney buses are free all the time so once your in the resort your sorted for transport, we saw loads of places we had never seen before and kept getting off at random stops to see what was there lol!

And CityWalk at Universal Studios has some pretty cool bars.....my mum was obsessed with the Irish bar there (cant remember the name) but it has pianos inside hehe. Did you get to see the new Harry Potter theme park? x

We didnt get to Universal, we were planning on going and then ended up doing loads of random stuff and ended up running out of time I really want to go see it though! Have you been? Some people we met said it was worth the waiting time but i dont think thats true and they did seem to complain about a lot haha!!

Yeah we managed to get in before the official opening of it.....I wasn't a Harry Potter fan at the time, but must say now that I have seen the films it looks so realistic with Hogwarts School and everything....we did go at about 9pm at night though and it was getting kinda dark so didnt have a proper look around (we only spent so much time there because we lost my dad and brother hehe) x

with pre existing conditions i believe disney insurance will cover u but thats only after u have been there like 90 days and your premium out of ur pay will be a lil higher each week but worth it if ur sick - drs visit plus some prescription meds for me was a couple hundred $ but it was covered by my insurance so all good

buses - if ur working then theres buses pretty much every where u go - walmart, all the disey parks, downtown disney and even florida mall once a week. theres also a stop for the bus to go to busch gardens in the premiums outlets across the road - you can also get the trolly down i drive to get to seaworld / universal it costs 25c each way for cms and takes about an hour to go from one end to the other - for seaworld its around 25 minutes and for universal around 45 mins depending on traffic - plus with universal its like a 15/20 min walk at the end but def worth it

you can also get the lynx buses every where as well - they take u to florida mall as well if u cat make it on the free transport i think an all day ticket is around $4.50 altho the mall bus stops running stupidly early at around 6pm

you also have taxis - kojak, karl and a few others they basicalled have vans and will take u most places return trip for a couple of $ each but u will know who is doing the rounds when u get there - they change occasionally when i was there there was kojak, mel, karl, orlando and one or 2 others

cabs tend to be a lot cheaper - everyone uses checkers cabs they are owned by ssame company who does mears transport and if there is 4 of u going somewhere they usually work out pretty cheap too

Awww just you mentioning all of the theme parks is getting me excited....Seaworld has to be my favourite :) :) And for shopping it had to be Downtown Disney. I spent nearly $200 in one go the last time I was there and could have spent a lot more...absolutely love it :) and the Christmas Disney shop is amazing (and quite surreal when it was the middle of June and we were buying Christmas decorations).
Public transport seems to be ok after what you have said, the only thing that would get on my nerves is that it takes twice as long to get somewhere than if you has a car :/ I'm very impatient when it comes to travelling :p
