Hey! Your license will be fine to rent cars. You won't need a local one, I mean how should the rental companies know how long you've been in Florida for?! You can rent a car for 2 weeks, the best deal is usually to book it from your home country though, as americans always try to sell you 100 insurances on top of everything. They try to trick you when they know you are not local. My friend from Germany just came for a visit and she had rented a car for 2 weeks for approx. 300 euros. You can get good deals on rental cars, especially if you are over 21 and even better over 25.

WalMart shuttles leave every hour ( but it takes you half an hour to get to WalMart) and the ones to Goodings/Walgreens like every 10 minutes. It is really convenient, I think a Publix just opened up by the Commons as well.

    Hi,

Sorry don't get me wrong, the rental companies won't have a clue (and probably wouldn't care), its just, and I know we don't like to think of these things, but if something did go wrong (When you are in another country with different road laws, driving on the opposite side of the road, with a automatic car when you may only be used to driving with a manual and the steering wheel is on the opposite side of the car than you are used to... accidents can happen), and you are outside of your 6 months, you would be driving illegally. I am not sure what the ramifications of that would be in the states, but I am sure its not good.

I am not some kind of purveyor of doom or anything, its just with something like this i'd rather think of the whole picture.... hope that makes sense!

that does make sense and i definatly dont want to be driving illegally. when i want it for the two weeks it is within the 6th months which is cool but i will definatly check it out and check that i am driving legally. it is good about the busses though as i had visions of then coming once a week at 5 o'clock or something!!! maybe i am just used to living where there is no bus service what so ever. also how easy is it to get to international drive from where we are?

i bought a car over there, its still in storage on the 192 actually. the test is easy. the florida driving test actually brings a whole new meaning to the word easy. dont buy a car from a garage owned by foreigners. then try and screw you over, and they also talk to each other in their language when ur looking at a car, also when ur buying. you have no idea what they're saying and its rather rude. my jeep cost $4500. i dnt kno how much you'd want to spend on a car. look around for insurance, get quotes. u can get it really cheap. also the florida insurance is weird. its not like in the uk. ur not covered for certain things, eg, if ur car gets stolen, u get nothing. its messed up how it works.

im so glad i got a car. the buses are annoying. they're slow, they only come at certain times, and goign shopping to walmart on the bus is such a pain. theres like a million ppl on the bus, all with 10 bags of shopping. also ur in the floridian sun, u can imagine wot its going to feel like.

driving on the right is easy. be aware tho, floridian drivers are crap. they dont indicate.

with a car, u can go wherever u want, whenever u want.

hope wot i sed is useful!

if its in storage can i buy it? did you have to give up you british driving licence though? that is what i am worried about i dont want to have to take the british driving test again? i really want to freedom just to pop places and am not too bothered about driving on the other side of the road it is the issue with licences that us stoping me.

no i didnt give it up. u dont if you're getting a state license. if your getting a full american one, thats when ur uk gets cut up (dnt know why, seems really random). even if ur uk did get destroyed, all you'd have to do when you get bk to the uk is send off for another one. you wont have to retake ur test.

i already have a buyer, sorry!

getting your license, its easy. i thought it wud be hard work, but its so easy. see susie at the clubhouse, she'll help you out.

Hmmm ok, I just never heard of your license expiring when you move here for a certain period. I definitely do agree about the whole insurance thing, florida car insurances suck....as well as the driver's here......

Haha@lessons....you will not need any lessons to drive here....when you see how people drive here you will understand...you go to the driver's license office and see these 90 year old grand grand fathers who can barely see their hand in front of their eyes walking out of there with their driver's license....plus criminals, idiots and everyone else that would usually never get handed a license anywhere else

yeah it is shocking who they let drive. i didnt look at any driving books or anything like that, passed bothy straight away. the day i bought my car, i had went down to get insurance then that was it. u can drive on ur uk license for 30 days. in that 30 days u have to apply for ur license. u get a tempory one in the meantime. the day i got my car, i went back to the commons and cudnt beleive the purchase id jst made. then i drove to mgm to meet some people. i found it straight away! i was amazed. it was pitch black and i was driving on the right hand side for the 2nd time in my life. it was soooooooooooooooooooooooo easy. you've got no worries at all.
