This is such a great film, went to a special preview showing here on the 13th. It is amazing but Giselle is not a Disney Princess, sad but true. Its great to watch and pick up on all the references to past Disney movies, totaly trivia awesome.
I see what you meant by 'Princess' now. At this point in time she won't be a Princess because as you said Disney would have to pay Amy Adams for life for using her likeness. And they are not too keen on that. However, this isn't set in stone because if popularity for her goes through the roof Disney might change their minds. I think there is also a loophole if they used the animated version of Giselle for 'Princess' merchandise. Guess all will remain to be seen...
I can see what you mean, but I meant she is not a Disney Princess based solely on the storyline within the movie. Though to be fair any movie that has merchandise, i.e. Star Wars going strong 30 years and still going, uses the best likelness to the cast they can, clearly getting better through the years, also Mattel have made the singing dolls for HSM so they are paying for likeness and sound. So I can't see that really being an issue with Enchanted. Also the animated characters are based on the likeness of the stars, the loopholes are never ending.
You are right Elliot. 'Princess' merchandise is currently based on Jasmine, Belle, Ariel, Snow White, Cinderella, Tinker Bell and Sleeping Beauty tho. They continually add and update merchandise in the range and make a large amount of profit from it because Disney own all rights to the characters and there aren't any third parties involved. I think Giselle is not being included in that range because it would complicate the range. As you said though... I doubt it is an issue to pay for likeness. As long as it's profit making they will do it... Giselle just won't be part of that particular range. At the moment it looks like the merchandise will gradually disappear once the movie has run its course. I think that's what the issue with being a 'Disney Princess' was. I think with things like High School Musical it tends to be more of a fad and companies can get away with bumping the price up. The High School Dolls are £20 which is quite a lot... but as you say... they are paying for likeness of sound and image. I would think that's why they are so expensive. If I'm honest though I wouldn't think the stars of High School Musical make as much as they could. The popularity was completely under estimated and I am assuming the stars signed contracts to do with merchandise when the film was made as it is usually common to do that. It's probably why some of them 'held out' before signing for the third. It's quite interesting stuff. Wish someone would make an action figure of me one day haha. You'll love the film Alex. The references to older Disney are fantastic... especially the way it begins with a book... I won't spoil anything.
woweee... a book? omg i cant wait...wish i was going today...instead i am being dragged to see T-Rex and Slade :-\ not really sure what to think of that to be honest....im soo cool ???!!! Bring on thursday! xx
