To be honest, there's so much going on the first week, you don't really need a car... The only thing you might need a car for is the first wallmart trip, and it's a lot cheaper paying for a taxi for that...

  2. I know its easy to navigate (ish) but it is still a BIG airport. I am just glad that I won't be travelling on my own and that there are a lot of us on my flight!

disneyprincess87: We are going the same date... Not sure if I know that. So much going on I cant remember what I know and what I don't anymore. LOL.

Anyway, I am up for the adventure of this whole thing. I have been to the airport before but I think I can find my way. What I hate though is I hardly know the people from my area going. I wish I knew more people cause it would be easier with all the excitement to have several eyes and minds going for the same goal. I remember going to Vegas recently and if it was not for one of the passengers on another flight we never would have found out luggage. Or at least not for a while. I cant remember the airport in Orlando. Last time I arrived there it was like Midnight, and I had been traveling since 1pm. I am hoping away that I can arrive with a few people going the same day as me from either other parts of Canada, or from other countries. And then maybe together we can work on getting there. But again by the time we go we will know all the problems anyone else ran into and know how to get around them. My friend, who posted here has never been to Florida or Disney World or any of that and she leaves May 6th to start. So I am hoping she can find her way easily enough, so her trip is less stressful for her.

If someone could please forward a copy of the e-mail to me (admin@wdwip.com) that would be appreciated. I would like to update the FAQ section of the Website that still states Disney picks you up.

    Thanks,

    Andy

another possible reason why they might have stopped picking up participants is because the airport is not alloweing it anymore...

if anyone remebers when Disney's Magical Express started (takes guests to and from the airport) the cast Members were alloud in the departure area. After a while, the airport banned Disney from having Cast Members in this area, only allowing them on the ground transportation level from then on.

Maybe the airport is now saying that Disney can only have representatives there for the guests and not the cast members.

    ??? ??? ??? ???

That would be a little strange though, because they're not going anywhere anyone else is not allowed...

HSM, that theory makes sense. They seem to have this fragile balance between Disney, MCO and Mears that no one wants to upset...

Thanks to everyone who sent me the letter. I have updated the FAQ section of the site.

I always appreciate getting updates like this so we can keep the information on the site current.

Personally i find it disgusting. It's another example of Disney not giving two sh!ts about the college and international college program participants. All they care about is using and abusing. Making the most money from us that they possibly can, and taking nothing into consideration when doing it.

I arrived (having been picked up at the airport) and was dumped at the front of Chatham. No one to help us find our way, no one to help us lug 2 heavy suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. They hadnt even put people from our program in the same apartments (like they said they would). Then after 3 months, having settled in, and just after christmas (when we'd been working 60 hour weeks), they decided to move us. With no warning. I was in there about 15 times, trying to get them to a) tell me if i was actually being moved and b)when it would be. and they could tell me nothing!! Even2 days before i did move, they wouldnt even tell me.

It took my manager at epcot phoning and raising a complaint against Price Management, to actually get them to let me stay with my friend. If i hadnt complained, they would have informed me the night before i was due to move, and would have put me anywhere they wanted. They dont care two hoots about us.

They didnt even have a graduation for us from Disney, which every other group had. It took me going in and complaining to the international programs office, to combine our UCF graduation, with our Disney one. Even then they had no idea what was going on.

My experience wasone of confusion, people not caring, or being able to help. Being tossed arond, forgotten about and generally used and abused. They lured us there with the ''graduate program'' which was meant to offer us opportunities within the company, chances to shadow, cross-train and the like. When in fact, we got nothing. I pressed a green button for 6 months, and despite asking for more experience, i received nothing. In fact, they even shouted me down when i asked for more opportunities.

All in all, i think the way we are treated is disgraceful. I think it's about time everyone got together and actually said 'no more'. Each month something new happens to eliminate something from our time here. Be it new rules, or cutting help we once had. It's a joke. And at the moment they can get away with it. Ive never had management that care so little. We're cheap labour, nothing more, nothing less.

It seems like flashinghelmet was really unlucky!

Yes it's not all fun all the time, some times crap happens, but usually not even close to so much flashinghelmet have experienced. Seems like you were unlucky with a lot of things...

I've had housing problems too, and I'm not really sure what happened... But I requested to move because I didn't get along with some of the people I lived in. After a little while I got told there was an apartment going to have an available bed soon. So the manager of housing in the Commons asked when my days off where so I could move then and we agreed I would move the next week. So I packed absolutely all of my stuff down and went to pick up the key. When I asked for it the manager asked me who had promised me to move, because nobody was moving that day. I told her that I had talked to her just last week and what our agreement was. I even told her which apartment she had told me I would be moving in to. The response I got was that there was no availability anywhere in the complex. I got upset by this, because everything was ready and I didn't want to stay in my apartment. But she was nice enough to fix it, so she allowed me to move into another apartment just two days later, even if it wasn't really ready to have someone move in there...

Yeah, I think some of the problems flashinghelmet had were because he was in the graduate program (which is new, isn't it?). The CRP program is more established for things like graduation, and there are so many of us even if we're not in the same apartments we'll never be far from other CRPers. The housing situation doesn't sound fun, though. I don't think I'd like it if they told me I *had* to move. I'm driving down so I'm probably going to have a lot of stuff... it would take awhile to move that!

thats a bit of a scary post from flashing helmet but i have to say Disney is still a business and its run like a business. They know ppl want to work there so why give them extra perks beyond what they do. No matter where you work they are going to treat you like employees until you get to the top. Im sure they'll be bad days and things I don't like about the job but its Disney so you take the bad with being able to put that on your resume so you can become the one in charge or jsut get a better higher up job.

It's true, Price Management (housing) can move you if your apartment becomes 50% empty and you have no say in the matter. My son had the same experience as Flashing Helmet - he was working mandatory 6 day weeks and long hours at the time. He had to move 2 days before he was leaving for Disneyland in California to meet me for a holiday in the beginning of December. He never had any time to settle in - between working/sleeping and moving- and didn't actually unpack or organize anything until he was back from his holiday and even then with his long working hours it took a very long time. He managed to get a couple of hours off of work the day he had to move but he still had to work that day. He lived on the third floor of one building and moved to the second floor of another. Lots of trips up and down stairs in one day! They don't offer you any help at all. He had lived there for 6 months at the time and had accumulated lots of things - plus TV's etc. but he has his own car so that really helped transporting between buildings. To be fair they did ask him if he had any requests about where he would rather move but they couldn't guarantee he would get what he wanted anyway since they were pretty much full at the time. His old apartment went from being a 4 person male apartment to a 4 person female apartment. I have also heard of some people having to move twice during their programs and then there's some that don't have to at all.

But I'm sure you have the rights to have a day off for moving... If not you can always call in a personal day.

As mom-eh says, if your apartment becomes 50% of less full (people leaving for whatever reasons, movinng out, end of programs) then you will have to move. They make this clear at the housing meetings at the start, and its probably in the contract somewhere.

moving would suck, but it would give you the opportunity to meet a new group of people and get a change of scenery!

Yeah I'd be annoyed if I had to move but since you don't have a choice I guess you just have to look at the good things about it...you'd get a change, you MIGHT move into a better place, meet new ppl etc.
About how much notice do you think you get though?

Haha, I think everyone had issues with Housing. Though, interesting to note, the commons housing (and maybe the others, I think?) are an organization separate from disney, and its not Disney owened. They stressed this all the time to us :/

  20. Thats a little cold of them, but i guess it wouldnt be 2 difficult. im glad i have friends in orlando tho or else id be screwed lol, im getting ahead of myself, i havent even got in yet! LOL
