So am I! So far two people I know have gotten their emails. They are both going to be on the Disney Dream, one leaves mid November and the other leaves end of November. They both put ASAP as their available date. Makes me nervous since I put November 1 as my available date....
Oh My Goodness!! I can't even stand the suspense!! I know I emailed my recruiter today and asked and she said they get different start dates everyday and that she hopes it won't be too much longer. I also put asap down on my application but i think their are only two or three entertainment hosts per boat so I feel like it might be a while
Hey Tayyy, I am not too sure how it all happened. I did all my application directly through DCL recruiting as opposed to through one of the hiring agencies, so maybe that helped? I just called and asked if I could request a ship and then she looked it up and said I could go on the wonder in December. Everything still hinges on my medical and background check just like everyone else. I am sure everyone is going to be getting their leave dates soon though!!! I hope there are going to be some people on the wonder with me!
You all seem to be ready to leave soon and I didn't even had my interview, can time goes faster please ? ;D
I got a phone call from National Medical yesterday!!! I guess that means my background check went through fine! I am SO excited!!!
ahh i hope this week brings lots of good new to us people waiting!! lol i'm beyond anxious and excited!
I feel like piggy in the middle cos i got offered a position to go this month, THEN got offered a position to go the end of janurary to go on the fantasy. . .i took the second offer but i could have been leaving NOW and im not totally stuck in limbo right now haha, but it will be the best chioce of my life when i finally get more information about my leaving date!! just frustrating cos i gots to wait 4 months to hear anything when everyone else apply and leave within a month after. . .spose they gave me this second better offer for a reason! just hope its a bloody good one ^_^
Eggface, While I understand leaving as soon as possible is a great idea... There is probably nothing better as far as a career and experience goes than helping to unveil and open a cruise ship. You will forever be able to say that ship is your baby and no one will probably know the ins and outs of it like you will. I helped to open a few hotels and I can say it is one of the most rewarding experiences and best feelings to say you were part of the original crew/staff for something...People look and talk to you differently, and as new managers come in or new people for staff come on board you hold a little more confidence around them because they will be asking you questions and coming to your for directions or ship information! I know waiting sucks, but I have a feeling you won't regret your decision one bit.
I opened the Dream and it was one of the best experiences of my life! Trust me - this will most likely be your only chance to open a disney ship so don't feel bad about not going sooner. The work is different, you get to see the ship being built/finished, and all the special events are great (disney getting ownership, the crew blessing, the arrival at Port Canaveral, the Christening event). It's totally different - there were days I would show up to work (YA) and they would send me in for hair/makeup for a photo shoot, tell me I had to ride the aquaduck for a hour (for a travel agent tour), help test out the detective game. It was a great career experience (I opened a billion dollar ship for disney!) but a great life experience as well.
My Medical is on Friday!! So I wonder how long after that I have to wait for the official offer and ship date?! I just am so anxious!! BTW did you guys join the Disney Cruise Line Crew Members Group? Because you all should and then friend me!!
I just got the email that they will be calling me to set up my medical! One step at a time here I guess!
roxy - THANKYOU SO MUCH!! youve totally made me relaise that the choice i made is 100% the best choice ever (and youve also made me super look forward to being at the launch of the ship) i spose its a once in a life time chance! and im also in the mind set to be 1 of 10 permanent employees to be chosen to work at Bibbidi Boddidi Boutique which i will find out if i have that role middle of next month. are you still working for DCL? i know someone who was also at the launch of the dream, shes a theatre tech (i think) YAY!!!
I got the email too! I'm freaking out because I am absolutely terrified of needles but i guess i'm going to have to suck it up in order to work for DCL! i hope we find out soon after what ship we are on!! eggface-- you're so lucky you know already that you are opening the fantasy! i would kill to do that!! like roxy said, it's the experience of a lifetime!
No I resigned - I worked for DCL for 3.5 years and while I miss it a lot, I'm glad to have more freedom of living on land. I am actually waiting to hear back about working the CRP for the Canadian pavilion at EPCOT, but may return to the ship one day.
I have three more shifts at my current job before I am done for good here!! I have another part time job but I freaked out because I realized the next time I work full time I will be on a huge ship in the middle of the ocean!!! I don't know if I can take the waiting much longerrr
I was simply wondering, the Disney Fantasy is supposed to launch March 2012 ... What can you between January & March ?! Are you on the boat or on land?
At least on the Dream, most Crew went at the start of December, we helped train new hires and set up the spaces. We did our transatlantic cruise over christmas, and was at Castaway on new years day. We spent a few days at Castaway and Nassau - so they could practice 'parking' the ship. During January we had practice cruises with shoreside people, travel agents, and officer families, we even did a special preview cruise where the proceeds went to the Boys and Girls club of Florida. Our 'Maiden voyage' was at the end of Jan with real guests. When we were in Germany we lived on the ship, but it was docked while we loaded things etc. There are people living in Germany now for the Fantasy but they live in housing as the ship is not ready for people to live on yet. The fantasy will probably be doing it's transatlantic in Feb and spend march doing practice cruises. Jan (I imagine it will be towards the end of Jan) will be training and setting up spaces.
The people who have been told they are on the Fantasy have been told their start date is jan or feb 2012 so I'm assuming it's going to be the same thing... the maiden voyage isn't until march 31. I think it's the DCL news website has a lot of footage from the Dream's maiden voyage and the christening of it... there are some really cool videos if you guys are interested!
