Well i guess it's a good thing i like rice So does Disney give me a bank account when i get down there? Were people able to wire money from their account at home into the disney one? I'm glad to hear that you were able to travel and enjoy the experience of being in Disney, because that's exactly what i plan on doing. Thanks for all the info, i'm trying to save up some extra bucks to take with me so i'll start off on the plus side instead of the negative. Gotta love an advantage. Thanks again.
They don't outright give you a bank account. They do have their own bank (Vista Federal Credit Union) and if you are a cultural rep you will have a presentation from them and the option to sign up for an account (I've heard they can be pushy there though and basically throw the forms at you to sign). I did go with Vista on my short program and had no issues with them, there are ATMs in all the parks and at the Complext for Vista and they have branches near the commons on I Drive and at Disney University. But you can basically choose whoever you want, Disney encourages you to have a US bank account for Direct Deposit, and if you use Vista all the work is done for you by about the time you go to cash your 3rd or 4th cheque.
Yeah, I had a Vista bank account too that I signed up for when I got there. I didn't have any problems with them, and you can use their debit cards everywhere, and there is an ATM at the Commons. When I was done my year, I just emptied it out and it was fine...they encourage you to keep your account open and collect interest incase you're ever back in the states again, but I closed mine right out. Its handy to have for direct deposit so you don't have to worry about getting to the bank every pay to cash or deposit your cheques. I'm not sure about people wiring money to and from a Canadian account as mine was empty! :-\
Hey Heather! Yes, I randomly "creep around" here when I'm bored in class... like today. I'm good at looking busy! Thankfully the Vista ATMs in the don't surcharge you for using another bank's card so if you need $$$ out of your Canadian account it's easy to access. I was really broke one week and tried transferring money from my Canadian account to my Vista account but it took a couple days to go through and by then I'd gotten paid again. As for direct deposit, it's really convenient but occasionally Vista is slow mailing out debit cards. One of my roommates got screwed over because although her paycheques were deposited automatically, she was still waiting for her card so she couldn't access the money without physically going to a bank teller. It might be a good idea to get paper cheques for the first couple of weeks because Wal-Mart and Publix will cash them for you. It's easy enough to switch to direct deposit later.
Yeah thats true, when I applied for my account I had to check off if I wanted a Debit card or not... that card never showed up (just the ATM one) so thankfully I had a way to get money out of a machine. but either way you get paper cheques for your first 3-4ish weeks anyway unless you manually set up direct deposit.
