Canadians for January 2010??

  1. Thank you! I thought it was a good name. :) Simba 1 sounds good too!

You can get a pretty cheap flight here, depending on the time of year and such. Sometimes it's cheaper to head out from Seattle, so I'll look into that too, if I get hired.

Hahaha... it would definitely be good to see more of the States! I've really only seen Cali, NY, Washington (state) and... well, Idaho. :p Baaaand trip. Well, and vocal jazz. Which I was in. Oi.

I do wonder if it would be worth it in the long run, though. A fifty hour drive doesn't sound too pleasant, especially since I don't know many people applying out west. It might just be better to fly.

Seattle is def worth checking out I bet - long live Jet Blue!! I'm beginning to get weary of Southwest though... a lot of their planes have been getting grounded as of late because they're not passing their maintenance tests :-\ Jet Blue is fun though - they're like the West Jet of the US!

Depends how much freedom you want outside of the walls of Disney really. Like if you need to go to Walmart for whatever reason, the car is definitely better than the bus. I literally went to to the Walmart once in '06 and it was such a pain! You have to throw all your stuff in the luggage compartment of the bus, and hope that when you get off nobody takes one of your bags by accident. Then you gotta haul it all to your apartment from the bus. An-noy-ing.

But other people are taking cars as well I'm sure, so it's worth asking for a ride with them whenever they're going to the Wallymart or something.

As far as Orlando attractions go - I think the iRide is a service that stops at places like Universal. Given that Publix is like a 10 minute walk away, it's not a do or die situation. It's just nice for things like beaches and what not.

Alternatively, I have a friend who was on the CRP when I was there, and whenever he was planning to do a trip to the beach or something, he'd book a few days off and just rent a car. A bunch of rental companies do Cast Member discounts (Thrifty does, I know for sure), so if there are a bunch of peeps, easy enough to split the cost and go! Then you can get something REALLY sweet like a convertible!!

Ultimately though, it's a freedom thing. If you're okay with planning ahead and sticking to a particular schedule of buses, iRides, etc, then you'll do fine without the car. If you want to be able to just go to the mall whenever you please, or hit up a beach, then that's when a car comes in handy!

  3. You always give such fantastic responses. It makes me happy. :)

I checked and it looks like Bellingham has an airport too, which is WAY closer. I've never flown with Jet Blue or West Jet, actually (a LOT of Air Canada... who don't even feed you...) I think it would be just as easy to fly from Bellingham as Vancouver... possibly even easier. Certainly cheaper. I mean, it's basically five hours from my house either way. I'll have to think about it.

I've been getting used to having a car around, but, you know, I think I would be okay.If Publix is a ten minute walk away, I'm sure it would be fine (what's Publix like, anyway? I've never been to one before!). I wonder how many people are driving out? It would certainly help if someone else was driving. I don't particularily like driving in new places anyway, and I don't know how my licence would translate, since I'm a "New Driver", and don't have a full licence yet.

haha heck, if I can make a smile just by jabbering on, well then that's just fab - I aim to please!

Publix is just like a grocery store really; they're a pretty popular chain in Florida. Apparently there's a fair bit in the plaza that it's in as well, like a 7 Eleven (slushy time!), Outback restaurant, and a couple other places that escape my mind at the momento. Heck, having an excuse to walk through the outlet mall on route to the grocery store is okay by me though! :D Plus there's a fudge shop in the outlet mall that I've never actually tried... nummy!

As for the licence, I'm pretty sure you'd have to have your full licence in order to get a Florida licence, so that may just solve your dilemma right there! Could try getting a permit and eventually work yourself up to a full licence in Florida I suppose, I'm just not sure if there's any sort of restriction on internationals in that department. I'm not really sure how many people actually end up with their own cars down there - I've heard of people buying used cars once they're there though, particularly people from overseas - bit tricky driving a chevy across the Atlantic ::)

  5. Well, see, you're not just jabbering on - you're jabbering on informatively! :D

Haha, then I may as well just fly! :p I can't get my full licence until next year anyway, so might as well use the buses. :)

meh the buses are entertaining anyways - always a laugh to be had! Especially with people falling asleep everywhere bwahaha

or you could just buy a Segway and REALLY go to work in style!

    You see me rollinnnnn'
    On my Segwaaaaay!

  7. Oh man, hahahaha, we should all buy Segways, and zoom around on them... We would probably be the coolest CMs around.

Zdeno Chara on skates would be like twice the size of anyone! Well, maybe not Yao Ming, but I don't think you'd see him on skates, ever!

I know someone at my workplace that segways to work! I don't know if that's an actual verb, if not, I just made it a verb :D

Shanan, actually Southwest is the WestJet of the U.S. The basic corporate culture and business plan of Southwest was used when WestJet was created. I've never flown with either Southwest or JetBlue, so maybe in terms of being "fun", Jet Blue is closer, but Southwest is supposed to be like that too. In any case, WestJet rocks! On one of my trips to Orlando, the flight crew did the safety demonstration to the tune of "Be our Guest"! It was awesome! I miss WestJet...

It does seem like there is more people from Eastern Canada on here. I am a Westerner, but I'll be moving to Toronto soon and I'll be driving from there, so I guess that doesn't really count. But ya, make a trip out of it! That's what I hope to do. Head down a week early, stop at some cool places along the way, drive through the middle of a tree, see the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota...
But even if you don't find anyone else on the program driving down, you can always grab a friend who's up for a road trip!

  9. I haven't seen many Westerners, unfortunately. I do think I'll fly out, though, it would be a big hassle to take my car, I think. I think I'll fly in early, though, and enjoy some of the parks for a couple of days, and get myself used to it. Having never been to Disneyworld before, I think it would help. :p

really I mean I found more central canadians i mean I consider atalntic canada more so eastern canada and ontario and quebec and such central canada lol and as for flights continental is a good one ... its not luxury but its a good flight... i mean if i get in my plan is to drive to maine which is about 7 hrs with my parents and fly from there it saves so much its like half the cost for a plane ticket to fly from the states

I'm a Westerner! :D I plan to fly out too. The drive would be super long, but I would do it if I had a car.... or my license ::)

Ah, segways are too cool! I want one!!

Fair enough, but by calling it central Canada, it just reinforces the "Toronto is the center of the universe" mentality... lol

It would be a long drive. I'm going to be driving to Ontario in a few weeks, and that'll be pretty long. I think it only takes an extra 10 hours to get to Orlando rather than Toronto from here... but at least if any one does make the drive, at least the destination at the end will be well worth it!

haha well yeah flying only makes sense if its a uber long drive i mean if you can drive down awesome lol ... man I don't even know how to drive so that would be a long awkward drive with my family XD

I've done the drive from southwestern Ontario to WDW before and its about 21 hours. I definitely plan to drive as I want my car there, but for those of you who are looking into flights, spirit airlines offers unbeatable prices. I once got a flight to Orlando from Detroit (yes you'd have to fly from Detroit) for $80, so its worth looking into.

  16. Yay, another Westerner! That's exciting. :) Maybe we'll be at F2F together! You have your phone interview, right?

So no one else has received any more info since the 2 or 3 people had phone interviews last week? I guess there's not that many people on the forums right now... How long has it been now since we applied? It's got to be at least like 3-4 weeks. It certainly seems like it's been a lot longer! :D

  18. Isn't kind of weird that only a few people out of ALL the ones who applied got a call? Have you heard ANYTHING back from Yummy yet?

Feels like a good little while, but we really only sent them in around July 14th! So we're really just past the 3 week mark - just a little more waiting to go! :D

Besides, as was suggested somewhere, they seem to be working West to East anyways, and taking a little longer to check up on former Cast Members as well sooooo we gotta be patient! I know, I know, easier said than done!
