I'm really confused. If applications don't close till November 15th, how can they have already made the decision that there are not enough applicants near Vancouver to have a final interview here. I'm also not really worried about notes. It's the labs that I'm missing that I'm worried about, which mostly have no make-up dates, and are worth 1-2% per session. But I want to work for Disney SOO BADLY that I think I will just risk it for this opportunity.
Well, to be fair, they've said from day one (if you look on the website) that interviews are anticipated to be held in Toronto and Montreal. I don't think it matters how many applicants they get from one place, it's where Yummy is able to travel to. Plus, it's easy for anyone anywhere in Canada to fly to Pearson airport, so I have a feeling Toronto interviews will be fairly full. Again, I'm sure if you talk to your profs ahead of time they'll be able to work something out. I mean, it's not like your ditching because you feel like it.
Hello all, I thought it about time I joined the conversation. I am from Vancouver going to UBC as well! I have a phone interview coming up next week that I am super excited/nervous for. I am disappointed that the next round of interviews are so far away, not only because of the classes I would have to miss, but the price of flying across the country and staying in a hotel. If I do make it that far though, I will find a way to cope. How are you all going to prepare for the phone interview?
Yeah, I'll talk to my professors and see what they can work out. When I emailed Kristen, she told me "After reviewing the locations of the applicants this year, I do regret the only final interview locations would be Toronto and Montreal due to the locations of all of those who applied." So I guess Vancouver wasn't too interested. I have a feeling it's because our minimum wage jumped from $8.25 to $10.50 this year. Hi Kiara!! Glad to see a fellow UBC student So far I've just researched past phone interview questions, and it seems to be pretty consistent. I have my last midterm on Wednesday, so I'm trying not to think about Disney just yet, and I scheduled my interview on Friday so that I have about a day and a half to prepare.
I am officially finished with my midterms; however, I do have two quizzes and two papers due this week, so I am in the same boat. I have no classes on Friday so I'm most likely going to book my interview for that day. I've been looking online for any information about the interviews and I've been finding a lot of different information on what the they are like. One constant remark is that the interviewer is always really nice, so that's encouraging. I am going to try to write down some basic notes on things I want to say and questions I want to ask for during the interview.
I feel like they're contacting us based on where we live... It seams you've all heard back but me and justine( who's also from Quebec right?) Just a theory hahahh, still refreshing my email every 5 minutes though!
Well, Laura, I live on the other side of Quebec, so who knows? Maybe by ends (far west and far east)? I have an essay due this week and nothing after until a History essay due last class (Dec 3rd) so I'll probably be working on that all Friday morning while I wait for my call. Am I the only one who wasn't given a specific time slot? I put Friday between 9 and 12 (EST), and Kristen replies by saying she looked forward to speaking with me on Friday. That's going to be a long four hours if I'm not until 1 (AST). Also, welcome to the board, Kiara!
That's strange that she didn't give you a specific time :S but we will be here to support you for those 4 hours! Ugh I have two midterms this week, a speech to write, and an essay due for tomorrow that I haven't started!
I hope she gives a me a specific time. I sent her an email today telling her any time between 9 and 5 on Friday and I really hope that I don't have to sit around all day for that, particularly because 9am is 6am my time. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. She most likely has a calling list for the day or something like that, who knows.
Yeah I didn't get a specific time either. Then I noticed that I also forgot to give her my preferred phone number, so I emailed her back saying what it was.
I did the exact same thing! I remembered right after I pressed send and had to send her another email right after. I'm glad I wasn't the only one.
Hahahahaha, I totally did it, too! I had sent her a reply about a half hour after she sent it (about two minutes after opening it), and then I was excited and re-read the e-mail and I was all "crap. I forgot the phone number!"
Finally got my e-mail! my interview will be sometime during the week of the 26th, just need to confirm with Kristen! SO EXCITED!!!!
Is the same woman interviewing all the candidates from Canada? Thats a lot of phone calls for one person.
Well, she is the head of the Canada/US Yummy. It makes sense, for me at least, so everyone will get an equal assessment. Plus, there's only so many hours per day she's doing them, and she'll only be able to do at most, 4 an hour. On a day that she's making calls for six hours, that's still only 24 phone calls that day.
Woo got my email too ;D last year they asked us to go onto yummy jobs and select a specific time so its weird they're just asking for your preferred date and time frame, it seems so vague. Idk
also last year I had Kristen Thornton as my phone interviewer and she was really nice and the interview only lasted about 10 minutes. They asked questions like "how will you deal with long hours and hot weather?" Most of the questions are listed on this site. But basically its really chills don't worry about it too much
ugh i still havent gotten mine yet! I'm from southern ontario so im assuming thats the place with the most applicants and itll take a while to get around to us....
