erm im not sure.... but when u can get on the cast portal... you can look up your schedule and it will tell you if your breaks are paid.
For my breaks, one was paid and one wasn't. I have no idea what determined this; I presume it probably has something to do with union contracts.
Oh... well some of mine are.... I think my 15 min breaks are paid...anything else isnt. I'm not sure though
Yeah that's right Louisa. Anything over 15 mins is unpaid. I wonder? Are they still dishing out the "screw you over" shifts in Uk merch? You know, the ones from 10.30 - 9.15. Losing that extra break for the sake of those 15 mins. Could make a bumpless evening in Crown & Death a (*insert sarcasm here*) fabulous prospect. I used to always get those shifts. : ;D Lol. ;D Ona x
Oooh... the 9.75h shift. Grrr. I used to get those too -- 10:45a-9:30p. In Merch with that shift you'd get an unpaid hour and a paid half-hour. What sucked was that if you were scheduled 15 min longer you'd get a 15-min (paid!) break. It's not the money, it's just that the breaks keep you from going insane some days! The trick was to show up at 10:30 for Morning Meeting anyway and convince that morning manager to start you right away! ~*~Linda~*~
In Le Cellier the breaks for podium castmembers depend on the length of the shift, much like merch. However, the restaurant stops seating between 3 - 4 for the lunch-to-dinner changeover so sometimes you can extend your break a wee bit If you start before 2:00, you take your break between that time. If you start after 2:00 you usually take your break whenthe first lot comes back from break. If you're an assignor, you get about a 50-minute break between meals from a lovely tenish-hour shift! Servers don't get breaks unless they are working both the lunch and supper shift and then it's an hour break. ~ Jen
Just wondered, do you get a chance during your shift to grab a glass of water or nip to the bathroom if its quiet? I drink loads of water, especially in the heat because i get so dehydrated! 8) Just dont want to pass out in the pavillion! ;D
Actually, that's a question that I've wondered a lot about (though seem to forget to ask!)... What happens to a CM if he/she is alone and reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally needs to... answer nature? And I read somewhere that eating (understandable) and drinking ( :-\ ) arent allowed in onstage areas... What happens when it's 3000 degrees and 589% humidity outside? Are we allowed to drink water or some such? KC
They best be letting me hydrate. I'm a red head and fall prey to sun stroke if I don't tons drink water and constantly apply sun screen. I doubt they'd having a cast member collapse on the job, so I'm sure we're allowd to drink...I hope.
Don't be so sure. In my year in UK merch I can think of at least 3 folks who collapsed out on cart. :-\ It all depends on your position and your managers. Towards the end of my contract we were allowed a bottle of water out on carts due to the fact that folks were close to fainting. But if you happened to be mystery shopped while you took a swig, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't go down to well. :-\ The only time that's really an issue in Uk merch is on carts. If you need to answer nature, your only hope is really to call the floorstocker and ask them very nicely to cover you for a min or two if they aren't too busy. Anyone wanna comment on other work locations? Ona x
Basically undercover assesments to monitor guest service. Disney call them GSEs (Guest Service Evaluations). Your manager has to give you one a month and on top of that, execs and management from other work locations randomly carry out GSEs. There are 10 points on each and you have to do all ten, all the time. If you're caught not doing them by a mystery shopper it can actually be quite a big deal. Reprimands etc. : But that's how Disney maintains it's high standards or guest service. :-\ Ona x
Surley if you are working on a cart in those summer temputatures they have to let you have a bottle of water so when you have a quiet min you can just take a quick swig otherwise i am sure to die lol. ;D
Other work locations.... The waterparks and pools don't just allow water - they basically force it down you're throat!! Because it's a case of constantly being out in the sun, managers are, suffice to say, pretty keen on reminding people to keep their water with them. There are numerous places for cast to refill the water bottles you are supplied with. If you're going to be a lifeguard, you're not going to get dehydrated!
In Canada F&B we have the same head manager as the UK. When we work on the popcorn/beer cart outside we are allowed to drink as much water as we want! We just grabbed from the cooler and had to remember to "spoil" it at the end of our shift. One thing there ISN'T on the popcorn cart is sunscreen... it is pretty shaded where our cart is but you'll def want to lather up when you first get to Florida, *especially* if you burn easily! ~ Jen
