    Hey Sabina...
Yorkshire Puddings were originally cooked in a tin under the rotating spit on which roast beef was cooking - the juices from the meat dripped on to it, giving a delicious flavour. In Yorkshire, it is still cooked around the meat tin and is served as a first course before the meat and vegetables.

Nowadays, they seem more likely to accompany the 'main' course alongside the roast beef, roast potatoes and vegetables, although I'm sure in some parts of Britain, it is still enjoyed the traditional way. The ingredients are as follows

    INGREDIENTS: Lard - a little, melted, Plain flour - 110 g (4 oz), Egg - 1, Milk - 300 ml.

    COOKING: 1. Pre-heat oven to 220C / 425F / Gas 7.
    2. Put a little lard in 12 individual Yorkshire pudding tins (or deep bun tins or muffin tins as these are deep) or a single large tin and leave in the oven until the fat is very VERY hot. (I mean... Blue Smoke HOT!)
    3. Place the flour in a bowl, then make a well in the centre and break in the egg. Add half the milk and, using a wooden spoon, gradually work in the flour. Beat the mixture until it is smooth then add the remaining milk. Beat until well mixed and the surface is covered with tiny bubbles.
(I usually make this atleast 30 mins before you need it so that it can chill in the refridgerator!)
    4. Pour the batter into the tins (depending on tin depth, I usually fill 1/3 of each tin) and bake for 10 to 15 minutes for individual puddings; 30 to 40 minutes, if using a large tin, until risen and golden brown.

Voila! You now have your yorkshire puddings... crisp on top, and i like mine ever-so-slightly soggy on the base.

I hope this helps... should you need a pic have a look at to see what the end result is like... here we go... feast your eyes:

Daddy long legs... eeeeeek! But hey.. the ice cream compensation seemed fair! So I guess when we all meet up again in London, we're all going for a Roast Beef & Yorkshire Meal then??? (Minus the added protein with eight legs)

I dont like apple sauce either James...or daddy long legs come to think of it!

@ Will – my parents can be very traditional at times being the true bred yorkshiremen they are as well as generations of the family before them! So often they will eat the YP first then hit the meat and veg. Me tho I like to pile everything into the middle of the GYP. Sunday roasts were something i really missed when i was at uni, and me and my housemates all used to crave them but hardly ever did one for ourselves coz we knew they wouldnt taste as good as our mums. I even have a photo of one of my mums roasts on my phone which i took when i went home one weekend coz it was just the best! Now i’m back living at home i get one every week yummy!

    Hey all

Haven'e been on here for a couple of days and got very spaced out reading a whole topic on Sunday Roasts - I would be your new best friend Will, love Yorkshire Puddings, as long as you can make them so they rise and don't lie flat and soggy, I prefer the smaller ones with loads of gravy, yum, thinking about Sunday lunch and it's only Thursday!

My speciality is Chicken New Yorkers - Chicken, bacon and cheese all wrapped up together served with fries or a cheesey pasta, yum, can't you tell it's getting closer to my lunchbreak!

Was one of your questions favorite food then Will? I read that someone else had that and a Sunday Roast was my immediate thought - better than 'what do you think of the royal family!'

What did everyone else get asked then?

P.S. Nice to see you back Jess, thought you'd decided to stay away until results time.

I guess you didn't manage to make one for halloween then? Ok... Looks like it'll be just like the olden days... "I'll swap you a dozen cookies for a roast dinner" hehehe  :D

I suppose Heinz Tomato Sauce (ok... ketchup grrrrrr...) is rare then... unless we go to the ex-pat shops and buy it for twice the price...  ::)

I bet there's a little black market going on with things people are missing... Incidentally, I foind a good site called CYBERCANDY where you can order anything from around the world and have it shipped to you. Here take a look...

    http://www.cybercandy.co.uk/aaasmt/

Enjoy and don't spend all your bucks too fast!  ;)

The only similarity i found between Walmart and Asda was that they have the same bags...you know with the smiley face thing on it----> :)

And they have the same 'value' range of products with the same logo that they use back here in the uk. Also...the fruit & veg isle in Walmart is ttiiinnyyy....and the snack isles are huge! about 5 of them!!
