Thanks for replying. The people at Vision Express didn't really help. They gave me my option but that was about it. They said I had to make the decision on my own. I don't think Disney will have a problem with my glasses, they're rimless and black legs. But I was thinking about contact because of the sunshine, I don't think Disney will provide prescription sunglasses - so thats when contact become more easy. I'll be working in Main Entrance Operations, so chances are that I will be outside most of the time.

For a year supply you'll only need 12 Lenses (1 per month), I'm going out for 6 months (so i'll need six pair)... but I was thinking... if i don't wear them all the time, then it'll be a waste (eg. I wear them for 14 day out of the month - as at the end of 1 month they need to be binned), but then if I do wear them all the time, then that's great value for money, where as Dailies will cost a lot over time - but then you have that option of when and when not to wear them.

I took like a months worth of contact lenses with me and then bought more out there from Walmart. You could do that if you are indecisive.

It does ultimately work out cheaper but you may have to pay to have an eye test before they can get you contacts. The tests are quite expensive. Think it was $100 for a contact eye test in Walmart.

What you could do though is get a prescription of your contact lenses signed by your optician before you go. Then you might just be able to go to an optician and have them order you some.

If you're comfortable wearing glasses though... ultimately it works out cheaper. I just have a strong preference for contacts because I do sports and just generally prefer how I look without glasses haha.

From a heat point of view... I liked contacts because then you can wear non prescription sunglasses haha.

And also... I would say monthly contact lenses aren't intended to wear every day. From a health point of view you should be having a break from them every few days. So I wouldn't worry about not wearing them. I wear mine like 5 or 6 days a week and try not to exceed 12 hours.

I have monthly contact lenses and like cowza said, I don't wear them every day either. A few days a week and definitely not more than 12 hours at a time. They start to bug my eyes after that point! I don't know about you, but my monthly contacts if not openned don't expire for at least 2 years! So if you get those you should be fine.

I went for the monthly lenses, as they gave me a pair to try for a couple of weeks and i really liked them.

    Another question...

What about laundry? I don't think each apartment has their own washing machine and dryer... so what's it like? I've heard nightmare stories and just wondered if disney would be any different.

Well when I lived in Vista there were communcal washers and dryers in each apartment block. I never had a problem! They were the same ones I had in halls at uni so I knew how to use them and my clothes came out fine. Most of my t-shirts are wool so I can tumble dry them anyway. I didn't often do that much washing because I spent most of my time in costume or pj's! Hehe. I also have a lot of clothes :-\ so that might have been the reason LOL

I do know one apartment who washed clothes in the dish washer LOL.

Yeah Vista is still the same... there are three washers and dryers on the ground floor of every appartment block.

It's Chatham that has the problems because they have a 'laundry room' haha.

That's good to know about the laundry situation, one less thing to worry about :)

Right now i'm trying to pack, and I think I'm taking too much... anyway I have another questions, how much storage space is there in the apartments? Or does it depend on what size? Will there be a dresser each or a wardrobe space which is shared... never really shared an apartment before so all these questions probably sound stupid.

    The wardrobes are pretty ok.

You'll get one walk in closet which you will share with your roomie. One side each.

I wouldn't take too much clothes with you if I were you. You'll probably find you'll buy a lot of clothes because of the climate. It actually is hot enough to wear shorts pretty much all the time. And you won't look ridic like those people that wear them in the UK even now in September when the sun isn't even out and there is no humidity haha.

Can get chilly in the mornings/evenings in the winter months but it's nothing compared to the cold you know.

I have another question - oh no not another I hear you cry ;D

I've just about finished packing and my aunt said " what about your mobile charger" now the thing is I've just cancled my 02 contract and went to pay as you go and I'm planning on leaving it at home... So my question is, if I get a mobile out in the USA can it make calls to the UK? Will it be expensive to call home from a mobile or is there a cheaper option, and my aunt would like to know how much it costs to call a mobile from the uk and to send texts.

    Oh not to worry!

Well most people (including me) buy a cell phone out there.

I bought mine from the Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney because you get a discount with your Disney ID.

The strange thing with american cell phones is you have to pay to recieve calls.

They can both make and recieve international calls.

If you call your Aunt it will cost you 20c a minute. If she calls you it will cost you 10c a minute to recieve.

Texting.. 20c to send and 10c to recieve.

For your Aunt it will just cost her 20p to send to you.

Remember there is a phone in your appartment where you won't have to pay to recieve calls haha. I used to always text my mum to tell her to ring the appartment.

Best thing for your Aunt is to sign up for a service like OneTel or 18866... think you pay so much a month... it's not very much. And then you put a number before dialing and it gives you cheaper calls. Some of them are only like 2p a minute.

If she doesn't have one of these services or doesn't want it... not quite sure how much it is on BT... you'd have to look on their website. It's probably in the region of about 8p a minute I suspect.

Also... cell phones count as a USA number... so there are no hidden charges for your Aunt calling you. Same for you to call a UK mobile... the number just counts as a UK phone number... so dialling a house/mobile will be exactly the same price... 20c a minute on the Virgin cell phone.

    Oh I should add...

most UK pay as you go phones cannot recieve texts from US cell phones. Hopefully your Aunt has a contract though?

You should call then and tell them that you're moving to the USA for 6months and will move you to the lowest contract @ £10 per month, it means you're still paying but maybe not a much if you're not using it.

im not keen on contacts, is there a disney look for glasses? i have very thick frames which i know arent the best cos i make my baby neice cry lol. would they prefer thin frames?

are contacts easy to deal with? i dont mind going near my eye but ive been around my friends when they have had horrors with them. one friend ending up scratching her own eyeball as the contact somehow moved and ended up in the corner of her eye.

I've done that a couple of times!!! First time was frightening because I thought I'd lost it in my eye ::) but the second time I just grabbed the cotton bug and got it out lol. When I was about 15 I tried contacts but simply couldn't get them near my eye because I was so scared, but this April I was determined to wear them for the uni musical and now have no problems. I think the main part is getting over the fact that the contacts won't hurt your eyes! Just never try to pinch them out when the contact has already come out lol ;) that does hurt. I won't be doing that one again :-\

The only rule with glasses is they can't have a PHAT 'Dolce & Gabbana' across the sides of them or have like bling hanging off them hahahahaha. No obscur colours.

I have Tommy and Fcuk glasses and they were both fine... they have the name but it's not in your face visible.

See with a cell phone from the USA, does it cost people in the UK for them to receive a text? And roughly how much does it cost for them to reply?
