There's a WDW press release (that annouced Wishes) that says FITS premiered in 1976....

"Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks show debuts in 1971 at the MAGIC KINGDOM® Park at the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort. After a long distinguished run, "Fantasy in the Sky" closes at the MAGIC KINGDOM® Park at the end of operating hours on October 11, 2003.
