Yeh exactly don't bother coming out here, its awful... :'( I work 89 hours a week... 7 days - its horrible Worse of all all the other people from the UK esp from the commons are sooo stuck up and nasty, I have a select few mates out here who are nice but just to pre-warn you about how bad it is. Good luck anyway, maybe it'l be different when you come over - i sure hope so
Hey now come on this is a bit out of order! I'm sorry that you are having a tough time out there, i guess that either merch or food and bev are understaffed at the moment. 6 weeks is not enough time to make such a harsh judgement on an amazing opportunity that you have been given. When new cast members arrive your hours will drop so stick with it. It is tough when u first get there as friendship groups have already been formed by the people who have been there longer than you but it doesnt mean they are stuck up... try getting to know people!
I agree with JRDREE, they are probably low on staff at the moment cause they are still being sent over to Florida, homesickness can also play a huge part. What you also said about the Brits i disagree cause i am a Brit and i know of a person who is working over there in F&B and he is a great person to get on with and it is hard as you are in a whole new culture and your close friends are not there, but someone once told me that never stop talking untill u know a person untill you know them then you can slow down 8) Dont worry though i am sure it will be fine. Rememeber it is only the first 6 weeks, so you have only been there for a short about of time. ;D REMEMBER ALWAYS MAINTAIN HOPE IN LIFE
Are you from the UK Low?? I'm on the IP at the moment and having the time of my life...it's a shame you're not enjoying yourself....you should come see me and I'll cheer you up!!! Stick it out a bit longer....starting ANY job is always tough...trying to fit in and adapt to a new life, but look where you are and how many people would love you be in your shoes right now!!! it can't be all bad!! Chin up!! Ellen x x x
i think reading her posts shes on the college programme. just enjoy ur time - ure only there for a short time if ur doing the college programme, and its u that makes ur time enjoyable so start thinking positive. Wat u said about the people from the uk i can't possibly agree with - uve met people on here, uve talked to people on here and they r all really lovely people. i havnt met any of them but u cant say that they are not nice when u read some of the things people have said. If they are being stuck up and nasty then surely ure saying things to them which r making them stuck up and nasty cus most people wouldnt say things without a reason. just try and make the most of your time in Florida
Don't fret. For that one aspect of the programme you're not keen on, there are 10 more that you can. Meet the internationals, do the extra stuff (trips, volunteers etc etc) and make the most of it! Dan
I have heard this complaint about the college program before...BUT...you are there to work remember. They use and abuse you because they can because you are only there for such a short time. They don't hire CP's just for fun. They need you guys to cover vacations of other CM's and for the increased attendance...especially this summer being the 50th. Just think of the money though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW! Yeah OT!!! Yes, there will be people you won't get along with, but you have to be pretty open-minded to survive out there. You will make some really great friends, so spend your time with them!!! You don't need to have 20 friends. Don't spend your time hating it. Everyone goes through phases...you'll regret it all later. But if you hate it that much...GO HOME! Shan
Low is not a CP, i read some of their previous posts and they flew from manchester, England on 6th June! I never understood people who automatically assume people who dont talk to them are stuck up! Try talking to them and getting to know people, dont be so miserable and enjoy the amazing opportunity u have been given! At the end of the day tho if you hate it that much then as shan said... GO HOME! Maybe someone else who will have an amazing time like i did can take your visa!
It's tough to call as I felt there was certainly a divide between certain groups within the respective pavilions, when I was there anyway. Some people do act like that towards others, whether it's because they earn more money up in service, or the person in question doesn't quite fit in with the culture there. So, in a way, she might be right. This happens everywhere though, you have to find your group. I actually found it hard fitting in the UK because I'm not a big drinker, and everybody there did that on a frequent basis. That was their choice, not for me to condemn, but I decided to branch out elsewhere. The thing is, we all feel like that on the IP at some point, and it's the way you respond to it that is most important. It's not easy to stick around when the place is understaffed and people seemingly think ill of you for whatever reason, but you should go out and explore the other avenues open to you. You leave the UK for a year, it's an opportunity to meet lots of new people and see new places. Fair enough, you should try to get on with your co-workers, but if they don't give you any joy, look elsewhere! I know lots of people who did this and ended up with a worthwhile experience. Bar a couple of exceptions, all my best friends on the program are from many countries. As Shan said, you dont need 20 friends. 1 or 2 quality friends are all you need, rather than the "approval" of 20 co-workers.. Also, a lot of people would love a crack at the program, you got the chance. It's worth sticking out (and I never thought I'd say that when i first arrived) Dan Dan
Yeah, she is CP...working in the MK. Anyways, like Dan, I never really hung out all that much with the people from my own country. I had my few great Canadian friends, but my boyfriend was UK and (unlike Dan! ) I spent most of my time with them. You said you have a few great friends, so spend your 3 months getting to know them really well. I wish I'd spent more time with my few Canadian friends. I miss them so much now. Just got back from seeing some of them for a few days and it was awesome. Take advantage of being in Florida. You are only there a short time and will regret it if you spend your 3 months moping around instead of having fun. Everyone goes through this phase (usually seems to be the 3 month mark in the IP), but most stick it out and those who don't, many live to regret it. Shan
89 hours a week! There has gotta be some sort of regulation / law against that! That is just exploitation -that is not exactly the Disney ethos! Surely employees have some sort of say over the amount of overtime worked?! If I had to work 12 hours a day for 7 days I would be VERY upset!
I'd just like to add something ! Sure it's probably annoying to work so much every week ! But excuse me, working at Disney is not really working ! I, personally, work here in Disneyland Paris and I enjoy every moment of my job knowing that I'm making this park magical so that the guests enjoy themselves ! Of course I don't work as much, but still !! How many of the people I work with worked overtime and don't even get paid just to make sure that the guests have a nice stay ! So sure you can be unhappy by your oevetime working, but just imagine how many people would dream to be at your place and be right there in WDW ! Just think that you're lucky !
ok hi everyone either there is another low or i dont no what goin on cos i did not write that mesage. it was so much hard work over there and ye your not treated the best so dont get any faluse hopes that its goin to an easy ride cos it not i mean i really hurt my back doin my job but still loved it and was really sad to come back to the uk. i did have a hard time to start with but it was fun in the end. for anyone who is going be warned it is the hardest work u will ever do and i worked a hell of alot of might in the magic kingdom till 3am but it was fun and i can sing all the words from wishes by heart but i dont think thats a good thing lol good luck low xxx

Erm Lowry i do not recall you workin 7days a week for 89 hours??? The only way you did that was if you volunteered for it and then thats your own fault! Andy never EVER worked 7days and he worked with you.......I worked more than you so why are you writin that?? Just because you werent enjoyin it doesnt mean other people will feel the same so why spoil it for people? O yeah and hows your back now?
