according to my gf at animal kingdom we get our work schedules weekly. but it is possible that the epcot guys get theirs monthly
if you want to buy tickets for a certain event and you know the date, you can wangle someone to work that shift for you. just dont make it a habit cause then less people will tend to help you out if you want to go to an event. and if you are lucky you dont work the day of the event. score
In 2006 they were two weekly. I'm sure its the same now. Best to ask someone already there! I have the same problem with booking tickets for musicals!
Right. When I go on the 17th, will I get some money at the end of feb or will I have to wait til the end of march to get paid? I'm just trying to figure out how much money to take!
you get paid weekly. usually on a thursday (at least animal kingdom folk) your first week there you obviously work less hours than normal so you will pay a LOT less than usual. on your second weeks paycheck they deduct your first weeks rent as well as your second if i am not mistaken. so for the first 2 weeks you dont get a full paycheck. after that you will be sorted though.
i'm not too fussed about my first pay cheques, kinda understandable, but at least i get SOME money just to keep me going, having no money for a month sounded ever so scary.
you can always come to one of team awesome's members. im sure me and stu will always have some beers no matter how tough times are!!!! im saving like mad for my trip, but with the exchange rate being 10.40 rand per dollar it proves to be quite tricky!
As above, schedules are released on Sundays, the days your two days off each week are pretty constant (major holidays permitting) so you should be able to plan things in advance on those days - if its an event in the future you can request to change the days your 'weekend' falls on to fit your plans, or switch shifts with a friend. If you double back your weekends to get four days off in a row, they must be Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, as new Disney weeks start on Sundays (e.g. can't get Mon-Thurs off using two weeks worth of 'weekends'). Paychecks tend to be released on Thursdays, picked up from your work location, to be picked up by Sunday - so if you don't work on Thursdays you'd have to make a special visit if you wanted to have it that day. If you don't pick them up they're sent to your home address abroad e.g. UK, France, Mexico etc so will be a right hassle to get the money. You can then either deposit them into a bank account (free) or cash them for a small fee at banks or some supermarkets. If you have a bank account you can cut all this hassle by setting up a direct debit to your account (set up on the hub) then spending using your debit card, taking money out of an ATM or asking for cashback with a purchase in supermarkets (americans may call it a check card, a current account is called a checking account, cheque is spelt check in US). Unlike the UK most banks charge you a small fee to use an ATM from another bank - so woth noting where your bank's ATM's are to avoid fees, or use cashback. Popular banks for CM's include Partner's Federal Credit Union and Sun Trust. Sun Trust offer a free checking account with debit card and online banking - international CM's can set up one by bringing their passport and Disney ID to the branch at the Wal Mart where the busses go to. There's also a branch opposite Downtown Disney and an ATM where you can deposit funds backstage at Epcot, as well as others across the Southeast USA. Partner's is run for CM's, offering similar facilities with a branches near the back of MK and International Drive, and ATM's in places such as Vista Way housing, but none in any other non disney location (one near the studios in Burbank, CA). Your card may have a Disney design on it. Its only free if you have your wages deposited into the account, so you'd have to make sure you withdraw all funds and close the account before you leave, or pay a monthly fee. You may get a talk about this account when you arrive Be prepared to be recieving very little in your first few weeks, you're not paid for the first couple of day's worth of form filling and intro talks, then have a limited schedule during training. In this time you'll likely be spending more than usual to set yourself up e.g. toilietries and food, so make sure you have enough backup funds. If you're from the UK consider setting up a free Nationwide flex account (their current account) before you leave for withdrawals and spending without international currency fees - friends and relatives can send money to this account in the UK for you to spend in the US easily. Similarly a Nationwide or Abbey Zero credit card carry no fees abroad for spending (but ALWAYS make sure you pay the balance off in full, otherwise its not worth it in the interest you would pay). Hope this info helps you. Personally I set up a Sun Trust Account which worked well - using a debit card for spending meant I didn't have to worry about carrying loads of cash around or have the hassle of picking up and cashing pay checks.
So we don't get automatically paid into an account? We have to pick up a cheque every week and pay it into the bank then? how long do the cheques take to clear? OMG THIS IS SO CONFUSING. nevermind, just re-read it, setting up debit cards etc! ok, thats allllll good.
i'm glad by the time i get there many of you guys will have been there and done that. team awesome, i expect you to tell me what to do! heh
I really struggle to get my head around all the different banks you can use, where you can and can't withdraw money. How you get paid and when and how you cash it and what way is best. Grargh...to the point that I start getting worried about it all. I agree, I'm glad you can be our guiding lights in this
Don't worry Jess. It's something everyone has to figure out, bet loads of folk can advise you on what is best to do. Or do what I do, ask to be told what to do instead of being advised on the options! There's not right or wrong when it comes to picking your bank, how you get paid etc.
