Yeah I was also wondering if the contracts could be extended at all. I read that if you work hard and your manager likes you, it could be possible.. But has that ever ever happened? I sure hope soo!

A couple people on here quite reciently have said that it happens... but like I was telling you last night I can pretty easily get a US citizenship, so if I like it a lot, hopefully theres another position I can move into and move myself down...

Not expecting this but I guess it could be called best case scinario lol.

Generally speaking, the Q1 (cultural rep.) visa is valid for 15 months. So in theory, it is legally possible to extend your contract by up to three months.

    Possible. Yes. Likely. No.

You can ask as soon as you arrive for an extension request but whther you are extended or not all boils down to two factors.
    • Do they need you?
    • Do they want you?

Really it depends on business needs and you as a CM. I extended by a month. But I can only think of a few other UK merchies who also extended in my time there. :-\ But there's no harm in asking. :)

Btw, Jorden, I am so jealous. It's IMPOSSIBLE for us to stay in the US. So difficult for Brits to get visas. ::)

Yeah my Grandfather was born in Detroit, so being as how I have a pretty immideate relative who was born in the US I can get the citizenship easily. I don't have it yet (with all the wars and such I put it off to avoid any possible conscription they might want to have thrown at me) but I'd risk that to work for Disney for a few years lol.

  7. I'm in the same boat (sort of) as Jorden
But my boat is bigger LOL

ALL of my family was born in the US...my parents moved to Canada in the 60's (to escape the war)
But I don't offically have my citizenship yet either, and Jorden, so you're prepaired we might not be able to get it.
The US has changed their rules for dual citizenship ALOT in the last year, I'm in the middle of my applicaiton to get it...it is taking MONTHS of filling out huge forms sending them in and them sending me another package of huge forms.

Anyhoo, hopefully I can get it and then move there or to California to work in Disneyland :D

But thanks for the info Ona, I'll ask for my extension as soon as I get there

Hmm good to know it's not as easy as I would have thought... but as long as I'm still elegable its good enough for me.

...well I think that (in case I'm lucky and I'll go there) I will immediately ask ifI can move there for the rest of my life!! lol!! ;D

As I've said before, the only way of staying indefinetly involves a ring and a white dress :p

I would think a relative with US citizenship would work just as well though (not for either the ring or dress mind you, just for ease of getting citizenship).

I dont mind the ring but white is not really my colour and im not sure about the dress!!!

I call marrying the beast from Beauty and the Beast!

Oh I would marry an American in a MINUTE. 8)

  16. Jorden - have you gone on the US consolate websites to look up dual citizenship?
Immediate family member should work, but not always. More likely if one of your parents was born in the US but then there are a MILLION rules about what year they were born and how old you are and how much time they've spent in the US since moving out of the country etc. etc. etc. ETC! lol

It is so confusing, and soooo much to read, just so you know - you should look into it as young as possible, the rules get harder the older you get.

Good plan, I haven't taken a look at all to be quite honest... maybe I'm not even eligable anymore.

  18. Sorry, I'm not trying to discourage you, but it's frustrating for me, I've been sending a million forms back and forth with them for months!
My sister does have her dual citizenship but she got it before she turned 18 or 19 or something, thats when it gets complicated. So I was lazy and dumb and waited untill I'm 20 now to try to get it :S

Oh yeah and I'll be 22 in less than 2 weeks (HOLY MICKEY! I didn't know it was coming up that fast lol), so I'll be in the same boat as you likely.
