Sorry guys! I know this has been asked in threads before but couldnt find the answer I was looking for...can anyone tell me what to expect during my first few weeks...I have a Tuesday start date for F&B (Canada Pavillion November 1 ;D)and just wanting to know when traditions will be, when discovery day will be, when I start training and when first day of work will be etc. Thanks!! xo
Expect to be very tired lol. So you arrive on the Tuesday, you'll go to Vista, get a little welcome pack that'll have your schedule for the next week, then they'll take you to your apartment and that's you sorted. Wednesday & Thursday you'll be at the Commons filling in forms, going through rules, getting your housing ID's etc. Friday you're off. Saturday you'll be at Disney Uni for Traditions (veeeery early in the morning!) where you'll get your name badge and Disney ID's (to be let loose in the parks yay!) Now this is where it get's a wee bit hazy for me, because i remember that we didn't start work till the Wednesday (well I started on the Friday as I had my 2 days off lol), and I know we had a day at Disney Uni doing our food hygeine class. We had our discovery day on the Monday (I was in the UK, but I always remember we had to 'go pick up Canada for lunch' which cracked me up), but I have no idea what we did with the other day. Potentially another day at DU. I have a sneaky suspicion traditions was all of Saturday and half of Sunday, discovery day on Monday and food hygeine on Tuesday, but perhaps someone a bit more recent can clear that up. But, yeah, your fisrt couple of weeks should pan out something along those lines. Then another couple of weeks later you'll have another rediculously early morning to go get your social security number.
For Canada food and beverage you'll do some on-boarding days with DJ the trainer after discovery day (which I remember being tuesday because people were hung over from the monday night but it might be different). You have to do a bunch of computer courses on cash handling (because that american cash is so different than canadian cash), responsible liqour service, food safe, etc. You also get to watch O Canada!, learn where all the safety equipment is in the kitchen and dining room, then you meet with a manager (use to be Janice) and you get your 'service bible' and menu and more Le Cellier rules etc.
Oh my god, I forgot about the computer day!...sooooo boring! And yes, now you mention it, I do remember it being the Tuesday because half the Canadians went to Happy Monday's and went AWOL, whereas us sensible (haha) Brits saved that till the next week lol.
I can't wait for the first few weeks!! I remember at uni, I don't think I slept for two weeks! I hope Disney lives up to my expectations
DJ isn't the trainer anymore though! He's at Liberty Inn now I think.... (last I heard) so it'll be someone new. I remember because I facebooked DJ after I got the job last year and he broke the news to me I wouldn't be trained by him.... :-[
