Okay, so my dad got me thinking...

After you have signed the 12 month CRP contract with Disney and after, for example 1 month, you find out that you do not want to work there anymore and want to quit.

    - What do you do then? Are you obligated to work for 11 months more, or do you have the opportunity to quit?

I do not think this will be a problem for me though, since i am 99 % sure that I will enjoy every moment of my time down there. But I am asking the question anyway :p

    Thanks all :)

It's a work contract, not a death sentence! Of course you can quit :D People quit all the time.

You can leave if you want, but then you can forget beeing hired again by the Disney Company. And if you leave before the 12 months you have to pay your own airfare home.

If you do self terminate, you also have to be out of the housing complexes within 24hrs (have I got that one right?) so if you ever where planning on doing it, take some time to plan.

Not sure about the Visa situation - I think there might be a cause in that as well saying you have to be out the country by a certain number of days. I know that people being terminated by Disney had to leave within a certain number of days.

Okay, thanks for good replies :)

It is good to know that you have the opportunity, but yet again, I do not think I am gonna quit this opportunity when I first get it :D

I think the Visa is 30 days, atleast when you have finished the whole 12 month contract...

If you get terminated, the general rule is that you have 24 hrs to leave the country.

    wow, thats harsh...
Do you get arrested if you do not leave the country, or just a fine?

    Arrested.
Disney is your sponsor in that country, they're held accountable for the things you do, so you have to leave right away if you self-term.

Yes, of course, I understand that. But can't they just give you a big fine, and send you back to your own country?

If you do not leave the country, you will be arrested and sent on the first flight out. Then because you overstayed your visa, you will be refused entry into the states for the next 10 years I think it is..

That would not be good. I like coming to the USA shopping! Ouch.

not really-Disney is taking your word that you will behave and honor your work committments in good faith-if you dont honor that committment and break the trust, they have every right to tell you to piss off and leave you to the wolves that are US immigration.

And if you are arrested after Disney has fired you, they have no obligation to help you-you could be stuck in prison for months(theoretically). You will definately be blacklisted by US immigration for at least a decade, have to repay the cost of your deportation flight, and probably stuck with a hefty fine (which will reach you in the UK because we have an extradition treaty with the US-so if you didnt pay, they could call the British polcie to send backu to the US for trial).

When i worked there up until a year ago, if you were going to get fired and worked in the UK pavillion, the managers were actually quite nice about it, and gave you a weeks warning, giving you the option of resigning, and avoiding being on the visa blacklist-you would be on the Dinsey blacklist, but that only lasts for 2 years, and doesnt affect your visa rights. This few days normally gave you time to book a flight, pack up, post stuff home if you could, leave stuff with others to be posted if not. However, not all work locations had such decent managers, and they were under no obligation to do that (and the managers i worked with until 08 have left now)

best solution-play the system properly-dont call in sick or be late more than 3 times in the first 9-0 days, which is your probationary period when they are most likely to fire you, and after that, make a note of the first time you call in sick (remembering that 3 days in a row count as one point on your record card), because you can get 3 points every 30 days, dating from the first time you call in sick. After 30 days, you can repeat-its how people got extra days off. Any more than 3 points in 30 days for attendence is a reprimand, and more than 3 reprimands over your year puts you at risk(although your more at risk if you are in your first 90 days, or you appear on their radar at a quiet time when thdey can affoard to offload staff and not suffer from being shorthanded)

In short, play the system-we all did, but dont take too much advantage, because we are all expendable to the disney company-they can replace you within days by the 50 people who applied for every position on the ICP/CRP programme
