Hey boys & girls, ladies and gentlemen, well, we've been all accepeted, poppin' Champagne...hey we're going to have a hilarious and unforgetable year in Florida. Parties, lying at the pool, Disney, trips , etc. Nice. I just wanna know, why you guys wanna go there in detail? What do you expect from your year? What makes it so worth breaking your social life and quit your country and friends just for the year. And please , no offense. I'm just courious... So let's start...
Good thread Travis! well heres why i wanna go to disney so many reasons! My whole life ive wanted to live in America - last yr my dream came true and i did exchange in New York State, i came back missed america so much and went to france for 3 months to take my mind of it. I know its near impossible to move to america and work... So i decided when i graduate to do a gap year and try and get on an american program. Disney was just perfect i grew up watching disney movies and ive worked in customer service for 9 years - when it comes to work its virtually all i know! since ive been away on and off the last two years its not a big deal for me to move again esp since everyones graduating and moving anyhow! Sorry i rambled but hope that makes some sense... how about everyone else? xxx
First of all I´m sure this is something we can all agree on:  Florida has hot weather, palm trees and beaches with lots of hot surfers and georgous chicks!!!!!!  But besides that to me the people just make the difference!!  They just seem to enjoy life a lot more...they are less rude and much more easy going!!  When I go out over here in Europe (northern, central) it is simply hard to meet new people.  I just miss that openness toward new people that you get in the U.S.  Eventhough the friendlyness varies from state to state - People are much nicer down south then let´s say NY or Minnesota. But they are still very open minded and friendlier than most Europeans are.  I personally feel much more comfortable and at home in the U.S. than I do over here...                            so to me it is the people!!!! PS:  They have great junk food too  Marie...I did an exchange in NY too...Pelham, Westchester County. (2 mins from the Bronx ) Where did you live?? Stef
Oh thats so cool Stef - i feel like Americas my second home im always happy when im there! Two of my apt mates were from Westchester county that must have been so cool being so close to NYC... i was much further upstate at Binghamton uni in the Southern tier. Did u go to a SUNY school? I had the best year of my life went To NYC a lot (was back there for new years!) and travelled across america too... Aw thats so cool to get an exchange year in Ny then going to disney - we-re so lucky! xxx
I worked there as a nanny...did take a couple of classes at Monroe College though. I was the only white girl in class Yeah being so close to the city was fantastic. We went there all the time...mostly down to SoHo and the Village. What year did you go to College in NY? I spent New Year´s 2002-2003 on a boat on the Hudson River...it was awesome. Midnight we were right in front of the Statue of Liberty to watch the fireworks. You know what...I don´t think we were lucky...I mean we worked for it. We deserve that Stef
I was in New York State from august 2003 till June 2004. But i went home for christmas 03. It was this new year 04/05 that i was in Nyc for a holiday to catch up with friends i went to webster hall its in down town i think its the biggest and oldest night club in New York or thats what they were saying anyway! It was the KMU radio party. Wow that must have been amazing seeing statue of liberty for new years! wonder what a disney new year will be like! When do u leave for disney? xxx
I know Webster Hall....$ 25 cover!!!!! I went there a couple of times...but I didn´t like the crowd to much. Plus the rediculous cover they charged was a bit of a turn off as well. I am leaving in three weeks and five days (March 15th)...I ´m soo excited. I just can´t wait. I´m sure the year in Fla. is gonna be as good if not even better!!!!!!! I see you´re coming in June huh?? That´s not too far down the road either....that time is gonna fly by!!!! Stef
They (Webster hall) charged $75 for new years eve would u believe! I had fun but the best clubbing i ever had in Manhattan was last Feb on the frying pan - it was mostly irish illegal immigrants and was more like a rave! Wow u must be excited - im already shopping for florida - really hope the time goes quick! xxx
Hey all, I guess I'm just hoping to experience new things. That includes as Stef says - palm trees and surfers ( order doesnt matter!!) I want to meet new people that are as open as I am! TO taste different food from all over the world, to here different lanuages and I want so much to be able to hear music from around the world too! To get tasters from all the different countries within the pavillion so that I can decide if I would like to visit these countries in the future - which i'm sure I will! Leaving my family for a year will be so so hard but will allow me to become more grateful of them. The most important thing though is to have Fun! I think making our work, the way we live fun will let us all become better people and of coure good friends for life!! Thats ma speel! Carolxx
What do I expect ? Good question... Well, firstly, I'm French, so I would like to improve my English... And I wanna meet people from all over the world, that would be great : different cultures, lifestyles, etc. And I think this is probably gonna be the best year of my life, so I want to enjoy it as much as possible. And Disney is like a dream, with fairy tales and I am gonna be part of this dream and make people happy... Later ! Emily
Very very good question well i'm currently at uni in the uk doing a degree in travel & tourism management, getting a placement year i thought why not try disneyworld. i've been to the parks every year for family holidays since 1990. so it's kinda become my 2nd home, when i was 7 i said i was gona work there and finally i get there. Its all industry experience for me, good to put on the cv, and good to experience living abroad, away from people who know u and mayb open a few doors here and there who knows! Also I work at Alton Towers in the UK (uks biggest theme park for those of u who don't know) so will be good for me 2 c how things differ between countries in the same industry etc. and having family out there, cousin on a soccer scholarship, 2 cousins with family living there permanently its just the perfect scenario for me *yet again i've not given a short answer lol* xxx
