    Hi Guys!

I just wondered, for people in merch on $6.80 an hour. After tax and and rent, what is the standard amount we can expect to receive a week?

Hope everyone is doing good! Well not long now for many people! Will be great to eventually meet everyone!

    Have a magical day!

    Heya!

Thats a good question but well....It pretty much varies from week to week!
It all depends on how many hours a week you are scheduled and whether you actually work them all, or not!
The least you will be scheduled is 30 hours but it can be a lot more than that, depends on how many cast members are in merch at the time to how many hours you work!
Im sorry if that doesnt really answer your question too much but it really does vary a lot!

Hope you have a great time out there!!!

When I worked there and had a standard work week, my pay was usually about $170 after taxes and rent. But at that time the pay was $6.50 an hour and the rent was $67 a week. This might be TOTALLY off, but that's what I remember from my first couple of weeks when I had to cash my checks. After that I never really checked... LOL

No sweat Emma. I was 19 when I first came down and had never done any of that stuff either before. And its really easy, they set it all up for you, basically... Its just slightly harder when you do your tax returns... But there'll be over 1000 ppl in the same situation, so you'll find someone to help you! I did mine real easily online!

    em it'll b fine hun.

i've been kinda bank minded, had it drilled into me since i was younger to keep control of my finances by my parents, probs y im pretty careful with money. but yeah tax returns is fun, just done all mine now as i await my £100 rebate!

$170 is pretty good after tax and rent

and now the wage is $6.80 and the rent is slightly higher, so itll b about the same i expect people.

Yeah the rent now will be either $79 (6 or 8-person apt.) or $87(2, 3 or 4 person apt)...
The rent then was $67 and $79...

The wage is merch is enough to get by on and do some trips. We used to get around $160 a week after tax and rent. I think you got around $230 or $240 before deductions. I think I still have some old payslips somewhere! I think the rent has gone up though as I was $67 in an 8 bedroom and then $79 when I moved to a 4 bedroom. But it's not a bad price for what you get. You just learn in merch not to throw your money around like the food & bev people do! I have to admit though I did used to get a little annoyed when my food & bev roommate used to come at night with her tips!!! But what the heck, I had a fantastic year. Had loads of great nights out and lots of good weekends away on a merch wage, so don't worry! ::)

Don't worry you'll soon suss out where to get the dollar beers and on which nights!!! Jellyrolls on a Tuesday! ;)

Have to agree Dolls. It's totally depends.

When I first arrived we were doing 60 hour weeks so we were making $240+ after deductions. But alas, we had no time off to spend any of it. ::)

By the end of my contract, with seniority and all, I'd often do between 20 - 30 hours per week and for my last few months my wages were closer to $80 - $120 per week. But than I did do quite a few trips closer to the end of my conttract. We were better staffed and I was highest senority. ;)

But that's not even that accurate though since i was earning $7 an hour by then and alot of my shifts were training shifts so I was on trainers pay. ::) I'm really not being particularly helpful here am I? ::) ;D

I must admit though, I never felt totally skint. Like you said Laura, I think merchies are more aware of money issues but I was never stuck. And I did plenty of travelling and exciting things. :D
