Hiya! this is mainly for those people already out there! im a Guide Leader (not quite got my warrant yet but im nearly there!) and was wondering if there is anyway of doing any volunteering while on the WDWIP?! Gemma
Yeah u can - ive done it a few times when ive had a day off!! on sundays and wedesdays there is a volunteer thing called "give kids the world!!" its where disney cast members from the college or international programme are taken to a little kids village to look after kids for the night!! Basically all of these children are terminally ill - they all have different kinds of illnesses (u would ever think they are dying believe me) and they are flown down to orlando from all over america for an all expenses paid trip to disney and universal etc so they can all be a family and have some really nice memories before the kids......u no - and on sundays and wednesdays its calld parents night out - which is where the parets are sent out for dinner from 5-9 so they can have some alone time and we look after the kids - jus playing lego or computer games or whatever the kids want - nothing is impossible at the kids village!! Im not going to lie its heartbreaking and sometimes very difficult to put on your brave face - (especially if your like me and cry at everything lol) ive had to turn away from the children on several occasions cos iv had tears in my eyes - but when you no u have made a difference to that kids day then it makes it all worth while!! Hope this helps u guys - any other questions then jus ask away!! Kel xx ;D
Very cool. Seems very... Extreme Make Over Home Edition *chuckles* In the same line, If I get in, I'm gonna try and contact a local scout troop out there-see if I cant teach 'em a little bit about Ireland while I'm out there The BSA might not be perfect (*cough* far from it...) but I'd still like to see how they do things *nods, serenely* Kev
I didn't exactly go through VoluntEars...but I did tell the IP office I was interested in anything they threw my way. I ended up speaking at elementary schools (the 3rd grade) about Canada. It was so cute teaching them basic french, handing out flags and having them ask me all about my country!
there seems to be quite a few of us Guide/Scout association people!! (im going there now!) Disney are a great company when it comes to VoluntEars and Disney Hand - i got $1000 for my unit at the start of the year - calulated on the amount of volunteering hours worked! hoping to do the same this year! That Kids Village sounds great - however - il be a cryin one! hope therel b time to do stuff like that!!
