Hey ya'll (getting in on the Americanisms early) I have a question about the Visa, as I had one impression of the rules but someone else thought otherwise... This could be different for people of different countries so I'll ask in terms of Canadians, are we allowed to leave the country during our one year? I was under the impression that ya it's fine, if we have back-to-back days off we can go home if we really want to, or go somewhere in the Caribbean for 2-3 days or something... For me personally it's not a huge deal if I reeeally wanted to go back for a few days, since my house to the state of Michigan is literally a 20 minute drive I can just stay at a hotel there... But to me it would be cool if a friend on the program and I have the same back-to-back off then we can go somewhere else for a few days... Anyone know on the rules?
I'm pretty sure I've read about some Canadians going home for a few days. And it would be weird if it were different for Canadians, cause the rest of us can leave the country (eg. to somewhere in the Caribbean), so I can't think of a reason why the Canadians should be left out of that... :-\
I wasn't sure if we get a different kind of visa or what, since we don't have to do the whole embassy interview and such but thanks for your reply It makes me happy lol I think the no leaving thing applies to people immigrating to the US or something, they can't leave the country for a certain amount of time... iiiii dunno. I thought you could leave for the visa too, so the person I was talking to is wrong lol
we can definately leave the country....just can't go to cuba unless we go home first. it's kinda sad, we'll be so close yet sooo far away....
Yep, like the others said, i guess it's easier for Canadians but as a British ICP i had to get my DS2019 form stamped by the sponsor (which was UCF not Disney...) to say i was in "good standing" and just show it when you're leaving ie at the port if you're going on a wonderful little Disney Cruise... Its was a J1 visa so the Q might have a different form number but effectively the same deal i guess - people from the UK Pav were definitely going on cruises! My 2nd cruise, my visa was actually finishing during it so the customs people fudged it on the system to allow me to come back in on the visa rather than leaving on a visa and coming back a tourist - complicated!!
That's true... you'd have to make the 2 hour flight back to Pearson just to turn around and take a like 5 hour flight back down... Although I've never really wanted to visit Cuba to be honest... I'd much rather go to like St Lucia or Jamaica or the Bahamas...
