Well, im off on the 22nd of April and I sorted out my Visa interview today, kinda scary really answering all the questions and being careful to be right.

I was sto stuck on the additional male form as I did not have enough space to put it all in and so went onto 2 extra sheets (although they said I could).

And you are allowed to go up to 10 days early! w00t! April 14th is when ima flying!

Anyone been to the embassy recently? Got any info on what things are like this year with queues and stuff?

    Regards,
    Jamie

How do you sort your embassy interview? I asked Yummy but they weren't much help.

I would guess it's the same as here, you book it through the internet. And I would guess about the lines it would depend on what day you're going. But I don't think the lines are too bad at the embassy.

You have to call their premium rate number in the UK, but the operators are really helpful and dont try and keep you on the phone for ages. They will book it for you then you need to use your credit card (not debit!) to buy it.

What if you don't have a credit card?! I only have my Natwest switch card..

Oh and, do yummy contact you when they have all the paperwork sorted and give you the go ahead to book the appointment??

That's what I want to know, do I book the appointment now or do I wait for Yummy to give me the go-ahead, I never seem to get a clear answer out of them.

Just go for it, theres no disadvantage to organising it early, it just means everything is done quicker and its one less thing to worry about.

I think its a bit different for me, i'm on the J1 Grad programme and I'm sure that I need the DS form back from the Uni before I can make my visa appointment, that and I though yummy sent you a load of information about it and the procedure/stuff needed etc.

I'm sure yummy wouldn't leave it too late (even if it feels like an age to us). I was also told that your supposed to go in the month before departure..

Thing is, once you have your petition yummy sends a thing saying to book it straight away, so I mean it cant hurt to have the visa asap.

    can it.. :-\

hey guys, the whole embassy appointment process is unbelievably easy. You have to phone them up on this number 09042-450100. it is a premium rate number and will cost you about £1.50/per minute so best to use a land line phone. They will then arrange your interview, usually within a week at the longest. You do need to pay the fee of $131, you dont need a credit card though, the only cards they dont accept are visa electron.

The visa interview is easy but you can end up there for hours. Try and get an early appointment, its a pain having to get up early, but its a lot quicker. My appointment was at 8am and i was out by 10. Some people have appointments around 12 and are there for up to 5 hours. And there is nothing to do whilst you wait. Thet tell you not to take ipods, phones etc, but you can take them, they will not let you take them into the embassy, but they do keep them locked up for you and you collect them after. Probably good to take a book or magazine to read whilst waiting, something i wish i had done! The only thing i had to entertain me was the fact that matt lucas from little britain was sat next to me, very weird. anyway back to the interview, When you get there you get given a ticket with a number on and get told to wait for your number to be called. Firstly you get called to a booth to give over your documents and passport, and they take your fingerprints, then you have to go and sit and wait for your number to be called again, this is the long wait, can take up to 4 hours so beware. Then your called to another booth where you are asked a couple of questions, the questions are easy and are only questions which are on your d156 form, so there very easy. Then your done. just have to purchase the delivery envelope which is from a counter in the embassy. they say itle take 5-10 working days to get your passport back, but it took two days for me to get mine. If anyone is unsure of where to go, just go to oxford street and it is just off of oxford street.

So thats it, its reallt that simple

good luck guys and see you in florida

Yeah, the questions are really easy, it's just to make sure you're not a terrorist and that you don't plan to stay in the US when you get there :p

  12. what is the actual cost to make the appointment?

the questions are different every time, my questions were what was i going to be doing whilst in the us, how long i was there for, what my current job was and wether i would be coming back. and that was it, but i know other people questions have varied. It will only be questions you are asked on the d156 form though.

The cost of the visa is $100. I got asked questions like if I was a criminal and stuff, and "are you a terrorist?" :p
