Hi everyone, I just want to know what everyone suggests I do! I would love to hear everyones opinions! I'm thinking of applying for the CRP Program. However, I don't know whether to do this and take the year out before I go to university, or whether I should wait and do this after university. I would love it if you could leave me a response and let me know! I'm very indecisive right now! haha! Thank you! Cameron.
Id do it AFTER uni if i were you, i did and i think i made the right choice-i was that little bit more used to living away from home after living at uni, that little bit used to handling my money (just a little bit)after dealing with tuition fees, rent etc etc,and just that little bit maturer and most importantly, i was 21 so able to drink legally
I agree, I'd definitely say do it after uni! I have been thinking about doing this programme for years but have never really had the confidence, but now that I've been through uni I feel I am ready cos I've got a bit of experience about life, moving away, meeting new people, managing my money etc. I am far more confident now than I ever was. Uni is so so expensive, especially if you live away from home, so it really is one or the other! I was thinking of doing a post grad course, but I want to do this first because I can't afford both and I already have a degree, a post grad can wait a few years yet! ;D
definitely after university. after that you will be full mature. you can think, you know people and also can get some good experience . Dashquid fatlossprofessional.co.uk fatlossprofessional mobilehelper securetrip whichpetcover google abc facebook craigslist
I thought the same thing, I'm in the same position but personally, I think you should do the CRP first. You may be throwing yourself in the deep end but the competition for this program is getting so high you need to apply as soon as you can, who knows what it could be like three years down the line. I was waitlisted for 6 months and there's no way I'm throwing this opportunity down the drain because I know it would do me so much good. If you think about it, it would seriously be the making of you going to Florida for the year and you're gonna learn some serious life lessons and possibly teach you a little bit of direction in life. But saying that, uni is going to be the same lesson so my suggestion is don't cut your options short, whatever will be will be. Apply for the CRP, apply for uni and see whichever brings to light first and THEN consider what you'd like to do. Hope this helps. Dan
Of course, given that the fees are about to pretty much treble, it might not be a bad idea to get into uni before the changes come in and save yourself a few grand per year of debt
Don't wait. You don't know if you'll get accepted right away, you don't know what will be happening in 3-4 years in your life, your families or the world. It could just be me, and I am a huge fan of plans, but you can't know what is going to happen and if it's something you really want to do I'd go for it. I had always planned on waiting until after university (and to be of age...which didn't end up making a difference, underagers drink all the time!) but someone close to be died at 20 when he was just about to reach his nhl aspirations in a car accident and it made me stop waiting and apply. A series of unfortunate health/life events lead to me having to leave second year and when i was in the airport on my way home i got the phone call asking me to work for Disney 3 months later. and now since my program i've completely changed my career goals and found something i actually love to do. And i'm going back for a second program, of age, to save for more school You just never know, so you should apply!
i would say after uni... especially with the fact that tuition fees will be taking a steep rise if they haven't already so that extra year out may cost you another £10k or more. i applied for the CRP when i was 18 and then decided to go to uni and then applied last year when i finish and i am really glad i did... i learnt so much by living away from home for 3 years and also now i can drink
exactly my thoughts except for the fees-thats just for one year. you will be looking at an extra 15-20K quite possibly.......just for the sake of one year!, if your fees are 9k per year for a 3 year course, which most are now after the fee increase.
I'm not sure if you've looked into the academic options Disney offers. Because it doesn't have to be just before or after university, you can also work at Disney while getting your degree. I would agree with waiting until you've at least lived away from home for a bit before applying. Feeling more secure with who you are before doing something like this would be, in my opinon at least, beneficial. I'm really glad I waited until now to apply. Plus if you're 21, you can really party.
My usual advice in this situation is to apply for the CRP, apply for uni. If you get the CRP, defer your uni place, and do the CRP first, as a gap year. If you don't get the CRP (and lets face it, the competition is very high), you can go to uni, do the ICP for every summer that you're at uni, and then re-apply for the CRP once you graduate, if you're still interested. Of course, this is totally disregarding the recent rise in UK uni fees, which do now play a major factor in these kinds of things.
I like VikkiLillyBee's idea - it makes a lot of sense. There's also the issue of, even if you were accepted onto the CRP, you don't know when you'd be given a date to go out, so you could potentially end up having to have TWO gap years (say you were accepted, but weren't given a date to go out there until December. You'd not get back until December the next year, by which time the new university year would have started at least 2 months ago). So that might be worth considering in your options.
This is avoided by explaining your available dates to yummy. They totally understand that people have to be back home for certain things... uni, weddings, you name it.
Yup, they really do I applied to uni as my backup for CRP, then I was waitlisted for the CRP. When we had phone calls from Yummy Jobs back in Feb asking about our availability for the end of the year, I said I was available but I would prefer an earlier date as I was planning on going to uni when I got back. When I finally got a date I was given July 12th this year, whereas the other waitlistee's (that I am aware of) where given from October-December. So they do take into account what your availability is, and try to give you a date as convenient as possible. So that means I can now defer my uni place until next year The person who has started this thread hasn't actually stated how old they are, or when they are looking to apply. Because the Uni fee's go up in Sept 2012, so if they wanted the lower fees they would have to have already applied to start this year. Personally, I think it depends entirely on the individual. Sounds cheesy, but I think deep down you will be swaying towards one option more than another. So I'd just go with that gut feeling.
Oh wow, I didn't realise they were so lenient. I told Nick that I wanted to go after April next year because my friend's getting married, and although he seemed fine with that, I was worried they'd hold that against me as it would mean I wasn't completely free during the time period. That's definitely a relief to know! And I definitely agree with the part I've bolded!
I really don't think they penalise you for having only specific dates you can do. In a way I think they're grateful that you're up front about what you can do so you don't end up messing them around at a later date. It seems the way Disney works is that if they really like you, they'll find a way to get you
the only thing you need to seriouslty consider is money-if you applied to go to uni this year, your fees would prob be 3k per year. if you put uni off fora year to do the crp, by the time you start uni you will prob be paying 9 k per year..........for the sake of oe year which can be dne after you finish uni and will have given you time to mature and experience life away from home, is it really worth SUCH an amount of debt?
