Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, as you can probably see from the side bar thing! I've been looking into working on the CRP for the past couple of weeks, but it is something that I have ALWAYS wanted to do, ever since I first went to Disney World when I was 6! I'm sure a lot of you feel the same! I'm wanting to apply in June, as I want to be able to do this as a gap year before I go to Uni! However, I have a problem as I'm one of the youngest in my year group and don't actually turn 18 until August 21st!! I've emailed Yummy to ask them about this, but I was wondering if anyone had had this problem? I've noticed that most people who get accepted on the June Application don't seem to go until October/November, so obviously I'd be 18 by then! Also, all the blogs I've read, people accepted seem to be 21, is there anyone on here who has been accepted at 18? This really would be a dream for me (and all of you, I know!!), even though I know it would be so much work! Do you think it would help that I've been to Florida/America 7 times? And how 'Disney' should you make your Cover letter? Like putting in cheesy lines like 'Disney always taught me to follow my dreams and they'd come true...' or should I steer clear from things like that?! Also, I study American politics, and can tell you a lot about their culture, where states are, I can list the states. Do you think any of that would help!? And that I've done foreign exchange programmes and spoke at multilingual conferences? I really don't know what to put in my cover letter (yes...I'm drafting it all ready!!), any help would be SUPER appreciated!! If I can't apply in June I suppose I'll have to wait til the Jan/Feb applications!! Love to you all, Hope all of you out in the Sunshine State are having the best time, and making the most of a fab experience!!! <3 And to those who are finding out this week, good luck and Congratulations if you get a place! (Which I'm sure most of you will!!!) Catherine xxxx
Hi Im not really sure about not being 18 Im afraid but Im in the same boat as you gap year wise! I took one in September hoping to get accepted but didnt so Im going to be applying the same time as you! The advice I have is something a cast member told me on holiday 2 years ago and thats not give up! This particular cast member applied 3 times before getting accepted, so good luck Just wondering what sort of stuff are you thinking of putting in your cover letter?
Wow, looking back at my original post, that was really long!! Yeah, Im going to apply in June, and if I don't get it apply to be a princess lookalike in Paris! Then reapply for this scheme in Jan I'm worried about putting Uni on hold for too long, but this is my dream! And I have a job here, so worst case scenario I stay here and save money for uni! I just put in about my experience and how itt linked to the skills required on the CRP page then I put loads of emphasis on my language skills, and all the multiple cultural things I've done! I've already drafted it just need to neaten it up! I've also already emailed Paris for Xmas positions!! Eager beaver Good luck!!
If your looking to plan for the year ahead, its extremely difficult to do with the CRP! Applications closed at the beginning of January, we're waiting right now for the final result. Disney have told us that the positions are from August onwards... but there's only a couple people going every two weeks all year round so those who get accepted may not be going until well into 2013. There's no definate acceptance for wait listed people either, you could spend months and months waiting on a call that never comes. It would be a real shame to go through that and the expense of going to interviews (I've spend well over £1000) to then have a tough choice between uni and Disney. They do however take on a lot more people for the summer programmes, the process is also a lot quicker and it seems a lot easier to get into than the CRP. I think this could also increase your chances of getting onto the CRP. For getting into the CRP and knowing a lot about the USA... its almost irrelevant - its YOUR culture that they are interested in! There are people under 21, I think especially on the summer programmes but I think the main reason theres a lot of us older folk is that we want to be able to drink while we are there!
I suppose it must cost you a lot to get to interviews as you're from Scotland? (I'm assuming ) I don't think it would be too much for me as although I live in the North East I have a brother in London so that would save on accommodation! Well, I have a lot o backup plans for my gap year if I don't get on, so I suppose there's no harm in applying! well, I know a lot about the UK as well, my friends all say I'm the most British person they know! I just thought it might help to know what American life is like, so they know I know what I'm getting in to Ah yeah, I'd finally be 18 and still woulnt be able to drink! I wouldn't be too bothered anyway, I'm not a big drinker anyway! Hehe I hope you get a good reply soon!!
Hi, If it helps I didn't turn 18 till a week and a half after the final stage interviews 3 weeks ago so dont worry about the age thing. Also if your applying from june and get accepted you will most likely go from January 2013 so your program would end early 2014, this would overlap on when you would start uni xo
Yeah, I got a reply from Yummy and they said as long as I was 18 by the interviews then I can apply! So dis you get accepted at 18? Or are you still waiting to find out? Yeah, I know... Which is a bit of a pain, but if I go on I'd just take 2 gap years!! Thanks for your help!
I applied and got accepted at 18 I'll be turning 20 a couple of weeks after my start date - been waiting for a looooong time! My age didn't really play any part in it, other than drinking, but I hardly ever go out and drink anyway so I don't think it'll be too hard for me to cope They didn't mention it once throughout the interviews, which I liked too So yeah, there's hope for us young'uns
I really don't think age will matter at all. As long as you have the right positive attitude for the program.
Thanks for the replies! It's good to hear that age shouldn't stop me being able to get through! (So long as I'm 18 by interviews!)
i applied also when i was 18 and got accepted so don't worry about age. however the gap year could be problomatic. I applied december 2010 and i wont leave untill september this year so ive had a pretty long wait lol aswell as a few others so be prepared you may have to wait a while
i cant wait for this!! I am 17 and i would be 18 by the time of the move if i get accepted i have researched it so much and i really hope i get a place!!! ;D xx
