Whilst wondering wikipedia, i found a little page about a new disney film. This film is going back to cell animation and they ar doin git to see whether it will work with the modern audience. what do people think about this? do you think they should stick to cgi? Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_princess_and_the_frog they used to have a picture and it looked really good...let's hear what you people think to this.
There's a trailer for it on the disney website... it's only like a teaser though so doesn't reveal too much. I like that they are finally having an african american princess but I'm displeased of everything I've seen of the movie so far. I'm not totally convinced by Randy Newman doing all the music for it. He has done a lot of Pixar music and it was all very much background stuff... no breakaway pop hits haha. So I'm sceptical... The tone of the movie doesn't look like it's going to very serious... seems like it will have more of a slapstick style. I'm more excited about Rapunzel!
I look forward to any Disney film that comes out...but I can't make an imformed opinion until I've seen it (I had an argument with a friend yesterday who declared Legally Blonde a 'stupid musical' even though he hasn't seen it, and is basing his opinions on the film, which in parts is completely different! It really bugs me how people make such strong opinions about things they haven't seen....) anyway! Enough ranting lol.
I love good old school cell animation. I'm sure the modern audience will be fine with it, disney classics done in cell from the 1940's are still in fashion today, it's a timeless animation style. I reckon Randy Newman is a good choice for the style of film he's already written music for Disney films like Cars, and he worked on Forest Gump and James and the Giant Peach, so I bet does something really fresh for this movie. Although most of the charm of a movie is carried in the music, more so in the case of Disney films than for anything else!! I'm sure they said back in 2005 that Rapunzel was going to be a cell animated one, but they're using some kind of computer watercolour thing instead now. I must say it looks brilliant, gives it a reall fantasy feeling.
to clarify frommy earlier post, the cell animation looked excellent. i will judged the storyline when i see it. i never heard about rapunzel! what is this knowledge?
Disney announced quite a while back they were delving back into the "fairytale" franchise. Enchanted was to be the first glimpse of that and then Princess and the Frog was supposed to follow this summer that has just gone. It was pushed back though and we will have 'Bolt' first (a computer animated feature about a dog starring John Travolta and Miley Cyrus). I don't think until February 2009 in the UK though. Princess and the Frog will follow in the summer and then Rapunzel the year after. Rapunzel was actually supposed to be a lot sooner but it has been scrapped and restarted a few times. It was originally computer animated but then when Disney announced they had made a mistake by shutting down their hand drawn animation features and they were reopening, Rapunzel was started over to reflect the classic animation style. There is a place at Disney in Florida you can see some of the work for the films although you have to get special clearance to go in. I never got to go but one of my friends who still works at Florida was taken into it with one of our managers when she was doing meet and greets for management. They have some very neat stuff inside... including the Aladdin script! Princess and the Frog is quite a big deal because it's the first Disney movie to feature an African American princess. She saw a lot of drawings for her even before the image was made publically available. I'll have to ask her the name of the place. I wanna know how to get in haha!
that sounds awesome! Yeah i like the look of Bolt and it is good that they are going back to cell animtion, i do miss it. CGI is great but sometimes i prefer a good cartoon! i would nab that aladdin script!
I can't wait for it to come out, even if the script isn't that amazing it is still Disney and so will be a worthwhile film anyway. It will be good to have cell animation back on the screens again. It is far more impressive than cgi though that can be good.
That is sooo cool. Where is it. I never heard about it. The only exclusive area we were told about was the Castle Suite which a couple of my friends got to see before the chosen family got to go up there.
It's backstage. I think it's in the same area as Disney University and Magic Kingdom costuming. I'll ask the exact name of it next time I talk to her!
Oh, and Kristin Chenoweth plays Rapunzel in the film of the same name...I hope she sings because her voice is incredible (she was the original Broadway Galinda in Wicked).
I found out the name of the place! It's called Disney Design Group (DDS). It is backstage at DHS! Think you gotta have special clearance to go in though.
I believe let Pixar do the cgi and disney do the animation and instead of having them come out every year, have a year when a cgi comes out and a year when an animation comes out, that way you can have two years to work on a project, i know it takes longer but it give more time between projects.
I think the films take more like three years to make actually... which is why there is usually up to six being made at any one time I agree it would be nice to alternate them but Pixar & Disney Feature Animation are two separate entities and obviously do not communicate with each other haha.
