i'm on the icp from may-august this year, and i was just wondering if it's worth taking my laptop with me? and is it easy to connect to the internet at the accomodation and what do you need to do so? thank you
Hey Keira, lovely name btw! I think there's high-speed internet connection in all apartments (correct me if i'm wrong?), and I think it's definitely worthwhile to take one out with you, unless you don't mind using the public ones they have at the complexes. So just bring the relevent leads or wires you will need, not sure what they will be, but someone else on here will tell you because i'm useless with technology!!
i would bring your laptop for emails. you need to bring an ethernet cable to connect your laptop to the modem. The internet is soooo slow though, but if you want it faster you can pay extra.
I would definitely bring your laptop if you have one. It will be easier for you to use e-mail, surf the net, etc. Also, if you bring a digital camera it will allow you to upload your pictures, etc.
Oh my god!! I would never have even considered not taking my laptop! I just bought a wireless router to bring with me too. You need to keep in touch and upload photos and BLOG! AND CHECK THIS WEBSITE!
Ha ha, my dad is suggesting I buy a wireless router as well... that way I can use the internet from anywhere in the apartment. Is there just one connection to the internet in the apartment? If that's the case then a router becomes almost essential (I'd imagine there will be plenty of times when more than one person wants to use the internet).
on this note... what is using the computers that are there for everyone like?...long lines, slow, etc,... can i upload my pictures from my memory card and transfer to a usb... are they open 24/7?
No, I don't think the computer labs are open 24/7. In the presentation video (http://www.disneyinternationalepresentation.com/culturalrep/) they mention that the computer lab closes "a little earlier" than the gym. You could always use a roommates laptop though!
I cant remember for certain but i think at vista it was either 11pm or midnight that the computer lab closed. I only used it a few times until i bought myself a laptop and router. the router was the best purchase ever cause it meant that at least more than one person in the apartment could go on the internet at one time. Plus i could go on internet from my bedroom.
People keep mentioning that you can pay and get a faster connection, is this true and how do we do it. Im kinda an internet junky
You just tell the front desk and they fix it for you! And I don't recommend the public computers at the apartment complexes, because they can be so bad and slow! But there's usually excellent computers in the learning centers in the parks though, and I think there's one at vista as well?
The modem has 4 ethernet ports so can have 4 people connected at once, but it means everyone is connected by wires to the wall. Wireless is a good idea but i just stole someone elses wireless conection whic didnt have a password :-\
Yeah...I'm putting a password on mine. Normally I wouldn't, but if it already runs slow...I can't imagine how slow it would run if everyone around me was on it.
Another thing for to buy at Walmart when I get there then I cant do with wires, so used to using my laptop everywhere
Unless you can get a very good deal it might be best to wait. It wouldn't be useful if everyone brought a router. One of your roommates may already have one, or maybe you'd like to buy it with your roommates.
Ok, another question about routers.... We have two spares at home, one cable and one just a regular ethernet so I guess I can bring one of those... but surely you have to connect it to one computer before it will work for the others? That's what we have to do at home. So do you have to figure out who doesn't mind having their laptop stationary with the router attached or is there ways of doing it without attaching a computer? Does that make any sense? lol
I don't think you have to have it connected with a computer. When I lived there I'm pretty sure it was connected to the modem.
