If you only worked a 30hr week and get under $7 an hour.

How do you survive on around $120 a week after your "rent" has been taken out?

I have been to Florida 8 times and food wasn't that cheap. Even if i spent $60 a week on food that would only leave me with $60. Am I missing something.

if ur working in f&b and gettin under $7 an hr it usually means ul be in a tipped position, tips over there are mad, plus we get discount on food at work and if ur gettin in late from work u wont really be in the mood for eatin anyway! dont worry bout the money hun, we'll be workin in disney world :D and everyone will chip in for food for the week, u wont have to buy everythin yourself, dont worry :) x x x

You'll survive just fine on that pay! There's thousands of people there that do ;) If you want more money, just ask to work overtime!

The only things you're really going to have to pay for whilst out there is food and leisure activities (re:beer) so $120 should be fine. Food's pretty cheap, specialy at walmart, even alcohol is a whole lot cheaper over there! I'm going to take a huge wad of savings purely so I can live it up for a while and head to new york a few times. But generally we're all in the same boat!

yeh. after thinking about it for a while i figured it wont be too hard to live on. i keep getting mixed up with the dollar rate.

If I had £120 a week i could live fine!

    My maths..

$7x30 = $210 (not sure if we are taxed, have a feeling it might be to the tune of 5-10%)

So just for arguments take say $200 is what gets to us.

Then you have to take out the housing, thats $90-$100..

You could potentially be left with as little as $100 a month for all your essentials, food etc.

Fund management will probrably be fairly important.. as that has to go for all costs, not just food.

That said you can eat very well in the US on $10 a day, so its no big issue, and eat reasonably @ $5 a day if you buy in bulk from walmart.

When I get very very poor (which is usually after over-indulging after every holiday) I live off weetabix and supernoodles. Very inexpensive and filling. lol
I have a feeling that will be my Florida diet! Yay!

I ate just fine on that pay! But of course, it depends on how you use your money! You can't afford using too much money on other tings...

Im not sure how we will survive.. I mean, £120 is only one Magnum of Moet and Chandon! or 32 ounces of Caviar.. I simply do not know how I will survive! :'( :p

Well it's like anything "quick service" you get your own food.
    why would you tip?

It's generally mass made and things like sandwiches/burgers..etc

Would you tip someone at McDonalds or Wendy's?

EDIT: Sorry if that sounded sort of rude..I didn't mean it to be.

Tracey that didn't seem rude to me...
so some people are worrying about how much you earn. well i would say before you go to try and take as much money out with you as you can, i noticed last summer, yummy were telling you to take $200ish out with you please please don't liesten to that please take what ever you can with you. by the time you do your big shop when you get there you will find as though you will have nothing left. in my opinion take what you would take on a two week holiday. getting back on too the $120 aweek try rounding that off to English money it works out to be some thing daft like £3 an hour.
i found that if you take as much as you can then what ever you get payed can be left in your bank account to use when needed and it does feel pretty good when you save up. so the moral of this post i guess is too take what ever you can and don't liesten to yummy when they say take so little. Well, I manage to live on £50 p/week at uni, which includes food and going out so $120 should be fine! And we'll all be in the same boat, I'm sure everyone will understand when money's a bit tight. I'm trying to save up a good chunk of money now so that I can have it in a 'back up' account for those weeks when money gets low.

I don't think anyone is likely going to tip someone on qs because you just get your own food, it's not like you're being served by a waiter/waitress that you are able to tip. (Open to corrections there!)
I think it's more likely that fs is tipped (?) because people usually leave tips for their waiter/waitress. Is that right? If it is then does that mean that fs people are the people that get paid like $3 an hour (I heard the $3 from somewhere... but with tips obviously it's a load more) and then the qs people get paid the normal higher wage at around $6/$7?

I think that's right, not sure though!!
